View Full Version : weight lifting for grappling. platinummatt! 02-05-2007, 10:28 AM Can anyone give me any routines, or a link to a website? Especially body weight exercises. Thankyou Atnan 02-05-2007, 11:13 AM this is the wrong place to ask about that.....i wouldnt lift weights for grappling, but some people swear by it....youll get mixed reviews! very hard answer! if i were you, get the bas rutten mma instructional, he does a mixture of both! outofit 02-05-2007, 08:26 PM as far as lifting for grappling it's fairly simple. Heavy compound movements (warm up good). Don't waist your time on isolating exercises, like concentration curls. Deadlifts, Cleans, squats. Well just a suggestion, get some books and figure it out for your self. platinummatt! 02-06-2007, 05:55 PM Thanks....... moetorious 02-06-2007, 08:38 PM when i went to gsp's seminar he told me he does lots of condititiong instead of lifting weights. he siad he does lift weight 2 times a week and its all explosive exersises. just search for explosive excersises and do those, the more rep the better endurance and stronger u would be. outofit 02-06-2007, 09:33 PM plyometics, is what explosive movement training is referred to there is a book on it. High reps is for suckers. Cardio is cardio, and strength training is strength training. Do both but don't get them confused. Not to mention you'll probably give up weight training from pure boredom if you do high reps routines. There's a book called max contraction training by a guy named john little that can get rid of some of the misconceptions on weight training and i think the same guy wrote the book on plyometrics. Although neither are specific towards grappling they will broaden your horizons some. Any one who is against weight training for any sport is stuck in the stone ages. Atnan 02-09-2007, 12:03 AM strength conditioning is what you really want! 2swell k-wells 02-09-2007, 01:07 AM Go to Matt Hughes website he has routines and weight lifting is like 80% of what that redneck does anyways. Atnan 02-09-2007, 12:30 PM iam not saying hughes is a bad fighter, but dont follow his routines....hes naturally strong-from all those farm days and a a+ class wrestler before he started training mma! if anything hughes should watch some basic stand up instructionals! |
