Throughout the world, wrestling and grappling have been part of every culture, probably due to the fact that pulling, holding, lifting and carrying are far more natural to us as living and working human beings than punching and striking. This manual takes the reader step by step through the moves and techniques required to become competent in the grappling arts. These moves can be used to compliment other forms of martial arts, or used alone in close-range self defence. Topics covered include beating kickers and punchers, history of grappling, training equipment, safety in practice, vertical grappling, groundwork, joint locks, throws, stance and grips. I deffinatly reccomend an instructional vid for you.. it's pretty much similar but you can SEE the demonstration thus knowing exactly how to apply the sub or shoot or body lock.. rather than trying to interpret through a book.. It may be easier. platinummatt! 02-02-2007, 01:41 PM Yeh. Thing is I really like the author, I am borrowing his book on punching at the moment, and have been for some time as my brother doesnt want it back really. I love the book though. Geoff thompson you know him? Atnan 02-02-2007, 02:37 PM get the mario sperry bjj dvd`s...they are simply the best platinummatt! 02-05-2007, 09:42 AM Got the book through. It's not bad, havent read all yet, its an interesting mix, but its not really what I wanted. Alot of throws, and a few knees, kicks, etc from grappling range. I kind of feel Im not learning anything new from it. Thing is I cant really do throws due to medical problems, so I have to stick to leg sweeps. And was hoping for more chokes... but there is like 5 ... anyway. I will continue reading and update. I may get his book on chokes and strangles.
