what is bus speed?how crucial is it?i told you the specs of the sony i just bought and the bus speed is just over 2 hundred.i was looking at their web site and they have a compaq presario for 50 bucks more and the bus speed is 600.it does not have photoshop like the sony but it is not a floor model and the sony i bought is.do you think it would be better to go with the presario?

There are different bus speeds for different parts. Its pretty much the speed that the motherboard talks to the part in question. Like the speed for the hard drive is going to be different than the front side bus which is used for the processor. All are pretty important, but one can hold the others down, so its a toss up. Tell me the make and model of both in a pm and ill tell you which one id go with.

I thought he was talking about a bus.

no such thing as a 600mhz bus speed. Amd's run at either 100 X 2 (DDR) or 133 X 2 (DDR), it all depends on how quality the memory is if you try to go beyond that. Intel's i believe had 800mhz Rambus, but that is not the speed of the bus, it's the speed of the RAM. But since everything is DDR since rambus didn't make it your either looking at 200/233/266/333/400 for your ram modules.
AGP = direct to ram access.
basically the FSB is the processor to multiplier ratio IE a 600mhz processor is a multiplyer of 6 X 100Mhz which equals the overall processor speed. PCI and AGP speeds are universal across the board irregarless of processor type or motherboard. While FSB is different. Celerons ran on 100mhz FSB unless they recently have been upgraded the most a celeron would be on is a 133mhz with maybe DDR memory. A athlon runs all the way up to ddr400 memory, but not recommended, 333mhz ram yeilds the best performance. Duron runs at 133mhz. P4's run at up to the 400mhz i believe with the newer Soyo, ASUS and ABIT boards.
HD's run at either ****ty ATA33, ATA66, ATA100, ATA133 speeds.
