so should i use a bag or would shadowboxing work

shadowboxing first then once u start working the bag,get a good jabbing range and test it out. also throw your jab closer to the side of your face, sorta like an compact jab. but when u jab hard when your shadow boxing, your arm should be so extended it shakes.

What the ****? Don't listen to this Versatile guy.. don't throw your arm like your trying to throw it out of its socket. That's ****ing stupid and dangerous. You could always learn how to step in with the jab and use your weight to bring more power, or you could always ask your trainer.

i think he keeps his hand open and when throwing it he snaps it out while closing his hand and extending it when making impact

i think he means throw it out like you mean it. if you throw it like that you will get alot of your weight behind it but you may telegraph if your not careful.
so it a few times infront of mirror checking you aren't telegraphing then go to the heavy bag

What ever you do, if you're going to throw your jab reallly hard, make sure you atleast hit something... head, gloves, arms.... because if you miss, you could hyper extend your elbow depending on how hard you throw it

so be careful

watch Hashim Rahmans jab it hard and effective and maybe the one of the best jabs you could see right now.

try to slip your head as well step down and throw the jab from doward toward the middle of the chin this is a strong jab as well as effective and with a good defense and if you want to jab to the midsection you need to step in more. another thing in this tech is that you could prepare you right hand with intertial from down to up to hit in unexpetecly and you cover some of his sight and BOOM you gotta a knockdown or KO too

the streanght will come by time you train on the heavy bag by itself but try to hit on the chin of the person like bend down abit too when doing that and throw

Step in, transfer your weight to your front foot and get proper technique on the punch.

That was my point when I told that other boxing legend that what he said was bad for a boxer. You don't want to hyper extend your damn elbow because you listened to some ****tard on some forums. By the way, if you meant to say, "throw it like you mean it", then say it that way. Don't say "DISLOCATE IT LO!L!OL!" Idiot.

Good post, McAlister.

When u've got as much experience as him maybe u can talk but as of now ur just a little *****. Im young too, so i dont start **** with people over one of my opinions that could easily be wrong due to my inexperience.

be carefull if you tend to "snap" your jab as you could throw out your elbow doing so. i'm sure the more experienced people here know that anyways. but my tip is geared for the beginners here.

If you want to have a "strong" jab you will have to wait until your next incarnation when hopefully you will be born with Sonny Liston's genes. Until then just accept that you are a normal guy and don't listen to all the bad advice. Put your power into the power punchs, and set them up with a fast jab as your trainer has (or should have) told you.

Don't be so sure. Boxing guru VERSATILE2K over here seems to think throwing your elbow out of socket when you throw the jab is normal.

BTW, Evil_Meat, don't get at me about being a prick because I am trying to help someone by explaining to them that some of the **** said on here is not accurate. Speaking of which, you seem to be the little liar yourself:

On 01-12-2007, you posted some advice on why it is good to snap your jabs,
"In sparring i find it more effective to use fast jabs with limitied power and come in with sharp and fast straight right hands."
Yet on 01-18-2007, you posted the topic, "had my first sparring session today"

Nice to know that your advice is worth noting.. considering you've claimed to have sparred before you have.. you know, actually sparred.

i have found a good stiff jab is very usefull against someone who is quicker than you and has great headmovement you can then jab his chest and keep hhim off balance.

fast jabs AND power jabs should be in anyones arsenal. watch the 40 yearold george foreman to see how effective it can be.

fast jabs or powerjabs are all good just as long as you don't paw with it!
