View Full Version : Mayweather routine
GEOFFHAYES 01-24-2007, 01:26 PM Floyd does use weights now. I think it was after 135 to 140 where he had to start breaking his natural size and he did this with muscle. He never does weights like bodybuilding or weightlifting. He made it clear that it isn't about how good he looks or how much he can lift.
Floyds workout always varies. Its not one set thing. One thing he likes alot (which is right) is he warms up real well. He'll shadow box and stretch out for about 15 minutes. Whatever he does, he never really does rounds. He just boxes for upto an hour on the bag, pads, sparring etc He'll take short breaks sometime to catch his breath or have some water. When I say short breaks I mean upto 15 seconds.
Things he always does is warm up, skip for about 20 minutes, hit the pads/ body belt for quite a while, about 45mins, he'll also go on the heavybag for a bit but he doesn't bomb away because he has bad hands, also he'll go on the speed bag.
Floyd does everything a typical boxer does but he does quality and tweaks it to suit him. For example when he skips he does the moves he likes. When he hits the pads, he does it in a particular style that suits him and his trainer. When he hits the bag he doesn't kill his hands.
He does like ankle and wrist weights. He'll keep putting them on to make the workout harder. He also loves sit ups and neck weight harness. He'll basically do both of these every time.
Leonard Ellerbe is his strength and conditioning coach. Ellerbes a tank. He is the one who guides Floyds weight regime, sit ups, head weight harness etc
Floyd can often be found at 24 hour fitness in the early hours of the morning, he simple has no set routine and trains when he feels like it, takes a day off when he feels like it etc
He's never had a drop of alcohol in his mouth in his life and has been boxing/ training since he was 18 months old, but he goes to clubs most nights and buys the ladies champaigne
PATO 1 01-24-2007, 01:43 PM he also has upto 25 minute sparring sessions, and has been known to be able to run marathon distance
if youve ever seen a vid of him an roger opn the pads you should its amazing, especially when there eyes are closed
edit: nice one jujuy
Animal Squabbs 01-24-2007, 01:46 PM I remember on the "Heart of a CHampion" show, Demarcus Corley said that they would be leaving clubs at like 3 in the morning and Floyd would wanna go run with the clothes he had on at the club, because if he felt like running he would go run. Jeans and tims and ****.

it Soul of a Champion
anyway but some of the thing there i think he bull****s like doing the speed bag like a pro when he is 4 years old.
so that when he was less than three foot with not fully developed hand and feel and the speedbag is all high it kinda doesnt make sense.
but he trains hard i think that is part of his mentality and that is why i like Mayweather jr.
there was once a coach said: " Winning is not all will. Everybody has that. but its ti be willing to prepare."
the better someone trains the more probably he is going to sucess and Mayweather attaidue and mentality is really going to make him ATG IMO
canrus123 01-24-2007, 03:02 PM I really want to see this documentary, is there anywhere I can d/l it from?

-Antonio- 01-24-2007, 08:56 PM Thats what I respect about Mayweather. He likes to train. Thats the same story my coach tells me all the time. About him coming back from the club at 3 AM and going to the gym. You have to respect a guy like that. He wins the fight in the preperation.

Boxing guy just posted up a video. It's ****ing amazing, and shows how much ability he has.
Trick 01-30-2007, 12:40 AM Mayweather is the epitome of boxing talent today. Honestly, I don't know a more talented boxer in the last 10 years. Jones had tremendous athletics, but I think that Mayweather is the more talented boxer.
niceguy45 01-30-2007, 02:03 AM floyd does show a tremendous passion for the sport of boxing
cyberthugpatrol 01-30-2007, 02:08 AM .....He's never had a drop of alcohol in his mouth in his life and has been boxing/ training since he was 18 months old....

woody198900 05-01-2008, 09:49 AM He says he works out every day. and hard.
jberg 05-01-2008, 01:07 PM i think hes a good role model for boxers, works hard, trains hard, picks his battles. he shows off a bit, but the point is (and as he always says) he can back up his claims.
