The UFC’s latest supporting cable channel, HBO, have reportedly decided to air live UFC events free of charge in 2007.

The series of free shows are expected to begin when the UFC return to England on April 28th, for UFC 70. HBO have agreed to air three UFC events at a midnight slot, then depending on how it goes consider another three event extension.

The UFC has long relied on Pay Per View buys as a major source of income but believe that increasing the frequency of it’s shows, from approximately once a month to one every few weeks, will make up for the loss of revenue.

Should be nice to see. I wonder if they will eventually do it like HBO does boxing and have a PPV and then show it on HBO a week later.

Report: Tito Ortiz and Forrest Griffin at UFC 70

Two marquees names have been added to UFC 70 — the first UFC event in England or anywhere outside the United States in nearly five years — according to the rumors section of MMAWeekly.com.

Forrest Griffin (13-4 MMA, 4-2 UFC), The Ultimate Fighter season one light heavyweight winner, and former UFC champion Tito Ortiz (15-5 MMA, 14-5 UFC) will both face as-of-yet-unnamed opponents at the April 21 pay-per-view show.

They’ll likely join Liverpool’s Michael Bisping, the light heavyweight winner from The Ultimate Fighter 3, who’s already rumored to be fighting at the event.

Although I’d prefer to see Griffin and Ortiz face each other again (Ortiz won a split decision at UFC 59), the duo would add a good dose of pizazz to the UFC 70 card. With the UFC’s announcement that it would soon create a a UK division, the American-based organization is surely looking to make a major splash in the upcoming show at Manchester Evening News Arena.

Griffin, coming off an emotional loss to Keith Jardine at UFC 66, has lost two of his past three. After losing to Ortiz at UFC 59, he won a unanimous — but fairly unspectacular — decision over Stephan Bonnar at UFC 62.

Ortiz, fresh off a loss to light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell at UFC 66, is still five for his past six and one of the UFC’s most marketable names.

UFC 70 will no doubt be a big event for the organization, but it’s just one of three events in the month of April. UFC Fight Night 9 takes place April 5 (and is followed by the premiere of The Ultimate Fighter 5), UFC 69 takes place April 7 in Houston, and then UFC 70 hits England two weeks later.

free UFC is the only stuff worth watching.. however staying up till 4am watchin it, does not sound like fun, deffinatly a good way to get some sleep if your suffering from insomnia..

guess it's so late so UFC can make money off the tape delayed PPV..

Technically it's not free, you're still paying what..50 bucks a month for cable TV, or Dish.

Go back to the 1950's if you don't have cable.
