View Full Version : Most vicious knockouts
Terry A 01-21-2007, 05:10 PM I was wondering what some of your opinions are on the most brutal KO's you ever saw.
Here are some of mine...
1. Ray Mercer vs Tommy Morrison
2. Gerry Cooney vs Ken Norton
3. Bob Foster vs Mike Quarry
4. Michael Spinks vs Mustapha Wassaja
Best body shot I ever saw was Cooney's left hook into Ron Lyle.
Best "exibition" KO was "Butterbean" KOing Bart Gunn for real in the old WWF.

worthless without video
Duranimal 01-22-2007, 01:32 PM Azumah Nelson unleashing the uppercut from hell on poor Pat Cowdell in the 1st round for the WBC Featherweight Title in 85 (i think) Cowdell had never been stopped & had taken Sanchez 15 rounds only to lose on a split! Also what about Don Curry unloading the fastest left hook i've ever seen onto Milton McCrory in Welterweight Unification in 85, McCrory got up in a coma & Curry followed up with a Right hand straight down the pipe, BANG/CRASH & OUT! Don't overlook the Benitez KO of Maurice Hope in 81 at Caesars palace, the way Benitez just stood and smirked as Hope was falling like a felled tree. But I recken Julion Jackson nearly decapitating Herol Graham when being on the verge of being stopped was one of the most dramatic. this post has just unlocked the old memories of the golden 80's.

I hope that film is slowed down because if not Liston is slow as ****....also that guy Westphal looks pathetic the way he moves, however this thread isn't about skill and it was a vicious KO...However I believe that Dempsey and Marciano's KO's were more vicious...Namely Dempsey, because as Tyson put it- "Dempsey was the most vicious Champion ever...He just wanted to hurt people"....

The video jumps a bit, so that's why he looks slow at times.

I don't think so because they move around fine, its only their hands. So I disagree. Liston wasn't really fast anyway but he doesn't look good in that video, and his opponent looks like garbage. Still it is a good knockout.

Anyway, Liston was past his prime by the time he fought Westphal. He was fairly inactive and ageing.

In regards to the video of Curry & McCrory that was posted, you guys missed the best (or worst) part because McCrory actually got up from that left hook to somehow beat the count, and immediately after got nailed flush on the chin again with a right hand from Curry that left him that typical "out to lunch" look while he laid there stiff as a board on the canvas, which is where he stayed for a few minutes afterwards.

Yep, Curry did have some exceptional handspeed and that left hook was just about as picture perfect as you'd see...Curry basically ended the fight right there with that one punch because, although McCrory got up at seven (after stumbling on a couple tries), he was completely defenseless for the straight right hand that followed from Curry (which was easily the more "vicious" of the two punches, I thought).

did curry have power? or just a plain boxer
did curry have power? or just a plain boxer
Yep, he showed one punch power at times (like you saw), although that's not exactly what he was most known for, and I'd say he was similiar to Ray Leonard in that regard. Guys who could definate hit with quite a bit of "snap" to their punches, but have a large amount of other skills which kinda overshadow that proven ability to hit and take guys out.
And his style was dependant on his opponent mainly, as he could adapt either way, but yes, he was probably better known for his ability to box behind his high guard from the outside with some pretty good & quick legs, and then look for openings to come inside to shoot off those accurate combos of his (head & body...good left hook down there)...More of a mid to longe range sharpshooter though, who very much liked to throw straight up the middle.
Hey Versa, I was going to offer to upload a Curry fight or two for you, but I noticed that YouTube has Curry vs. Colin Jones (one of Curry's best performances, I thought) up on the site if you wanted to take a look at Curry for yourself.
jabsRstiff 01-24-2007, 11:50 AM Curry's time at the top was brief......but while he was on top, he was the best fighter I have ever seen.
He was just about perfect, & that KO of the very good Milt McCrory was him at the peak of his powers.
Unfortunately, he sorta crashed to earth. Don't know what the cause was...something mental, managerial, or his constant battle to make 147.
Dempsey 1919 01-24-2007, 03:07 PM and ppl never give tyson credit for his holmes win. i feel so bias there
Holmes was inactive for two years and 38. Liston was only 32 and fairly active fighting every year.

out of prime is outta prime. doesnt matter your age. 1 can have 100fights before there 30 and they could be outta prime.
