View Full Version : had my first sparring session today whatevathehell 01-17-2007, 10:00 PM I suck. but Im not gonna quit. hopefully one day Ill be good enough to be a pro fighters personal punching bag. Samuel F. 01-17-2007, 10:08 PM I suck. but Im not gonna quit. hopefully one day Ill be good enough to be a pro fighters personal punching bag. Of course you suck. Its your first sparring session. I sparred my first month of training and I sucked but now im 3 months in, and i'll be fighting next month. 3 months is a little early, but my coach thinks im ready in terms of skill level just need to get my endurance up. Plus, im pretty much at the perfect age to soak up the information, being fourteen and all. How old are you? How long have you been training? Kid Achilles 01-17-2007, 10:09 PM Everyone sucks on their first day of sparring. Animal Squabbs 01-17-2007, 10:15 PM I suck. but Im not gonna quit. hopefully one day Ill be good enough to be a pro fighters personal punching bag. there you go, thats the kind of attitude you want to have. Atleast you're not a ***** like some of these guys, good luck man. whatevathehell 01-17-2007, 10:16 PM Of course you suck. IM in my early 20s and no I have no dreams of going pro. Im just doing it to stay in shape. I would like to do a coupla amateur fights. The physical part aint so bad cuz Im not too long out the military..actually kinda easy to be honest..IM used to running five miles every other day and strenous exercise...its just tha footwork part. I "felt" like IM faster and stronger than my sparring partner its just he had alil more experience....like 6 prior sessions he said. I just started learning the basics like last month. he took it alil easy on me but I really felt like in a real fight I coulda hurt him something awful with one of my punches. to be fair he coulda done the same to me likewise. The first gym I was going to showed me the stance, the jab and the straight punch with my left...Ima south paw....the basic movements and thats it. the one I go to now actually give advice and tips and stuff. McAlister 01-17-2007, 10:19 PM everyone dont suck on they first day, u have ya fighters thats just naturally talented and do fairly well they first time in the ring...... but its nothing wrong with doing crappy on ya first day of sparring... its pretty common... just keep at it, you'll get better keep ya head up :boxing: Kid Achilles 01-17-2007, 10:20 PM I bet you were a champ right out of your mom's womb, right McAlister? Dye 01-17-2007, 10:24 PM I bet you were a champ right out of your mom's womb, right McAlister? i did really good my first time sparring agianst a fighter who is 11-3, McAlister is right. McAlister 01-17-2007, 10:41 PM i did really good my first time sparring agianst a fighter who is 11-3, McAlister is right. Yeah thats what Im talkin about, but its guys like achillies who sucked majorly and thinks everyone else does they first time in there lol just cuz he did Samuel F. 01-17-2007, 10:49 PM Maybe he should rephrase. Everyone sucks their first time if they haven't had alot of training and/or they are going up against anyone with a decent skill level. Like I sparred my coach the first time. -Antonio- 01-18-2007, 12:01 AM Its depending on your experience for one, and the guy who your fighting. There are guys who are 5-0 in the amatuers that arent nearly as good as their record shows. Ive done light sparring, not even close to full speed, and it wasnt even in a ring. Im looking foreward to getting in there for the first time. Whether I get my ass kicked or not, I just want to get it over with. Versastyle 01-18-2007, 12:05 AM i sucked. i even fell. but the guy said he still had a headache and it was 3 days later.:boxing: whatevathehell 01-18-2007, 12:50 AM appreciate the advice and replies however it is what it is. I didnt get knockdown but lets say it was uhh...open face season. whatevathehell 01-18-2007, 01:21 AM so im wondering if its safe to say that in order to fully appreciate shadow boxing one has to first spar...or no? Versastyle 01-18-2007, 01:26 AM so im wondering if its safe to say that in order to fully appreciate shadow boxing one has to first spar...or no? no. u dont have to spar if u dont wanna. spar is usually for conditioning and testing out some of the stuff u did in shadow boxing and on the bags and for some, when they have a fight. u can just enjoy shadowboxing though i used to.lets u fantasize about actually fighting in your head Sin City 01-18-2007, 01:26 AM Yeah thats what Im talkin about, but its guys like achillies who sucked majorly and thinks everyone else does they first time in there lol just cuz he did dude regardless of what you say you still suck on the first time.. you might not have sucked as much but still did. you can't tell someone you had a little bit of training on something then all the sudden your the greatest on the first try. Versastyle 01-18-2007, 01:28 AM dude regardless of what you say you still suck on the first time.. you might not have sucked as much but still did. you can't tell someone you had a little bit of training on something then all the sudden your the greatest on the first try. my 15 year old cousin on his first spar was actually really good. it was surprising. but he doesnt wanna box ne more. he was so relaxed and calm Sin City 01-18-2007, 02:46 AM my 15 year old cousin on his first spar was actually really good. it was surprising. but he doesnt wanna box ne more. he was so relaxed and calm I start next week.. I have been in at least 6 street fights so hopefully that helps. I already know how to keep my guard up and how to stand so hopefully I pick it up easy. Why doesn't he want to box anymore? moetorious 01-18-2007, 08:45 AM just keep tryin man eventually ull get good. Mick Hucknall 01-18-2007, 08:47 AM In my first sparring session i was a lot stronger than the other guy but he was more skilled having been there longer and had fast hands. He probably won the round but I manhandled him when things got close and I landed enough big shots so that he spent the rest of the round at a distance. Then the other 2 rounds were fairly even whatevathehell 01-18-2007, 09:57 AM crazy ? but getting popped in the face make scars....ie acne....work....stand out more or something? McAlister 01-18-2007, 10:20 AM dude regardless of what you say you still suck on the first time.. you might not have sucked as much but still did. you can't tell someone you had a little bit of training on something then all the sudden your the greatest on the first try. Im not talking about being the greatest, All I said is theres some that can go in there with NO TRAINING AT ALL, and still not suck... no matter who they facin an experienced person or non-experienced.... if they just a gifted athelete... example.. u have a kid in ya neighborhood thats really fast and strong, never played football for a team but kills everyone in street football... 9/10 you throw him in the back field of his highschool team and he should do fairly decent (wont suck just cuz its his first time in an organized back field) Just about every area has that 1 kid thats always been bigger faster stronger and better at just about everything than everyone else from grammer school up to high school or college.... thats the person Im talking about, throw them in the ring, and theres a good chance he will do well who knows versatile's cousin might be one of those kids lol... and he did good... so its not right to say "everyone sucks" or even "it depends on who they fightin" Evil_Meat 01-18-2007, 03:16 PM i did very well in my first sparring session. I was just too fast and too strong for the guy... I landed more punches than i missed easily. It was my second week against a guy whod been going for 3 months. He was pretty terrible and i dont think they should of put 2 inexperienced guys in there he really took a beating in there and i didn't realize how much i was hurting him. He had a swollen nose and a black eye the next day lol. He ended up quiting boxing4ever 01-18-2007, 06:51 PM I didnt do good at all my first sparring session even though its only been 2 months since my first one but the first one i was like target practice for the other guys in my gym ill be 16 next week and all the guys in my gym have at least 5 year experience and there all 21 and up every once in a while i catch a person with a right hand but i havent been sparring for long so im still sloppy another thing i have problems with is hitting hard and using my jab im not that confidant with my jab but my conditioning is decent Trick 01-20-2007, 12:27 AM Define good, Sure, some do better than others, some just pick it up easy. But trust me, no one can match an experienced fighter their first time out. I'm a decent athlete, but by no means any kind of genetic miracle. I've even taught a few guys (one in perticular) a few things, and they pick it up 5 times faster than I did sometimes. But when it's crunch time, they can't deliver like someone who has been fighting for five years. Talent isn't everything. Talent and PRACTICE make champs, not talent and being ****y. |
