View Full Version : Oscar De La Hoya-Floyd Mayweather
Dark Destroyer 09-20-2004, 02:00 PM Who do you think would have won if these two would have fought? This fight could have happened, Floyd wanted it bad. I think it would be a scorecard finale, Floyd is slick enough not to get knocked out. Floyd hasn't got the power to stop Oscar but Oscar has the power to seriously hurt Floyd. It would have been very interesting to see. I cannot decide who would win this fight because at the lower weights these are both kings.
mic573 09-20-2004, 03:16 PM It would have been a good fight but I think Oscar would of been too big and too strong for Mayweather at any weight. Oscar was going to grow into a welterweight when he was fighting at junior lightweight and he is still strong enough to hang with the junior middleweights. Floyd's best weight would of been at 135 at 140 he is going to get by with his skills rather than try to trade with the bigger stronger fighters. He shouldn't go after the welterweights.

Do you think Oscar would have stopped Floyd? I think he would have but Floyd is so unpredictable although we have seen what a size and weight advantage does. You can only advance so far i suppose.
mic573 09-20-2004, 03:25 PM No I don't think he would of stopped him. Oscar would defintely hit him enough to make Mayweather respect him enough to get the decision.

Who do you think will beat Mayweather out of the welterweights? Is there a step too far for him in this division?
Real Deal 09-20-2004, 03:32 PM Imagine Oscar De La Hoya vs. Floyd Mayweather is happening. Floyd Mayweather Sr. screaming in Oscar's corner "You can beat this son of a *****, knock the mother****er out" :D

I could see Spinks beating him and even Judah not by much though. Margarito would stand a good chance also. I know he wants to prove himself but he should just stay at 140. There is more than enough fighters at 140 that he can take on. I think he has trouble with Mitchell and Tszyu and with a few more fights with some movers Cotto will give him a tough fight. I can see Mayweather beating all three but I can also see all three beating Mayweather.

He is pushing the boat out so to speak in this division. All the fights are unpredictable really, i agree we wouldn't be shocked if any of them did beat him. Demarcus Corley had the power to stun him so the likes of Judah and Cotto could seriously hurt him. I think Spinks will be the best fight for Floyd now, it would be Floyds best test but i would back Floyd in that fight to be honest. Spinks tends to slow down later on in fights, he left his guard open against Zab Judah and got floored. I think Floyd could beat him but only because of Spinks lack of power.

:D Floyd Mayweathers dad probably would say that. Alot of people question his training ability, i want to know why he kept resting Oscars arms on his shoulders? I haven't seen that before.
jack_the_rippuh 09-20-2004, 05:04 PM De La Hoya has a glass body... :D
Sir_Jose 09-20-2004, 05:05 PM DLH beats him at any weight
To big to strong to fast for Floyd

Leonard was on the money in his analysis before the DLH-BH fight.
He was also saying that DLH does not belong in his league, specially the ability to move up to middleweight.

Leonard was a very unique fighter, he took some good shots off Hagler. Their were several times in their fight where Leonard looked like he was finished and then he would come back with flurries. :D Very crafty. Leonard had a long layoff too before his fight against Hagler.
Oscar gets my ultimate respect for taking the fight, i still think if it would have gone to the cards that Oscar would have won. I think that thought pissed him off too, he knew that if he survived he stood a good chance of winning. His combination punching would catch the judges eye and the fact he was coming forward alot.

What exactly did Leonard say?

tito will ko mayorga and oscar will knock out tito
doomeddisciple 09-21-2004, 12:11 AM What exactly did Leonard say?
Basically that he took the Hagler fight cause he saw that Marvin was being outboxed by John Mugabi and he then thought he could do it too.
He said he thought that he was stronger than De La Hoya, and that Hopkins was not as limited as Marvin was. He said Marvin had problems with boxers and that he was able to win their fight by boxing.
I had it for Marvin by a point, but I'm the most biased Hagler fan going...

Winter 09-21-2004, 01:44 AM Oscar De La Hoya does not have glass body. His heart and courage is not glass. Only bigger boxers can beat him.
chubb5000 05-03-2005, 10:28 AM Yeah a body that you can really stick into somebody's jugular in a fight

jack_the_rippuh 05-03-2005, 12:51 PM This is a pretty old thread.
I'm going to give another opinion about this fight after I see Arturo Gatti vs. Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya's comeback fight at 147lbs.

Mayweather beats De La Hoya at 147...
DR. FREECLOUD 05-03-2005, 02:26 PM c'mon wez...we all know dlh took a dive against b-hop. he could have gotten up at any time. i thought it was very poor acting. i thought dlh knew that he couldn't act. his acting career went nowhere. i didn't buy his dive in that fight either.
!! Mr. Soprano 05-03-2005, 04:52 PM I'm a big fan of DLH, but right now, Oscar's mind is all over the place. Being a world class boxer, you should be in that mental state like Hopkins, Tszyu, etc and DLH has lost that hunger in him a long time ago.
Up until his fight with Vargas DLH was unstoppable. Right now he is not the same warrior he once was.
He looked so lazy against Strum and the way he looked for the Hopkins fight, he already lost it before he even stepped a foot in the ring.

it seems like DLH has other things in his mind now. I agree with you, he doesn't seem the same. Perhaps its the fact that he's aging...
Tha Greatest 05-03-2005, 06:03 PM You know what DeLaHoya said in a interview before the Hopkins fight?
He said, "I'm such a machine right now!"
LOL!
That was the gayest quote I've ever heard someone say....
puppy_dogg 05-03-2005, 06:07 PM i think some of you guys are'nt giving dlh enough credit. just because he's a promoter does'nt mean he's not a world class fighter. floyd- oscar at 147 would be a great fight, oscar would have a big chance to win at 147, he's bigger, stronger, has the bigger punch and oscar is no slouch when it comes to speed either. i would want floyd to win but it could easily go either way

Aging?? He is only 32!
USA4LIFE 05-04-2005, 03:41 PM DLH would knock the **** out of pbf. Is a way smarter fighter than pbf and one shot will knock his phony gangsta ass out, DLH is too big and too strong for him. Sure he's quick but like Jermain Taylor said "He cant slip em all".
