View Full Version : The Game - what's the big deal?
Greatest_D 01-10-2007, 06:02 PM What's the big hype over The Game? Everywhere I go I hear "Damn, The Game brought the West back. That's why I feel him" I'm like seriously? THAT's the guy you want bringing back the West? Then I read about people everywhere saying he's top 5 artists. Say what?!? I'll admit his voice is cool, and I'll even admit his flow is more than above average. But seriously, the man couldn't rhyme to save his life. Isn't rhyming at least 50% of what makes an MC? Then I hear about his albums being classics. Whoa! Illmatic, Lifestyles ov da poor and dangerous, Rip The Jacker, Reflection Eternal were classics. As far as I can see, these had unbelievable lyricism. This guy relies on name-dropping and production. He's in his late 20's, you'd think he'd have learnt to write a half decent rhyme by now.
Am I the only one who doesn't see what the big deal over this guy is? And let's try and not turn this into a name-calling contest like I've seen threads like this become before.

I agree for the most part. Game is no amazing lyricist or anything, but he does have a lot of good songs that I enjoy listening...regardless of content. You basically have to laugh it off when you see someone call him "top 5 in the game" or whatever you were referring to. I just take artists like that for face value...enjoy the songs but understand that they are in no way, shape or form the best at what they do.
Tha Greatest 01-10-2007, 10:51 PM I don't care...
His music sounds good...
I wouldn't say he's the greatest, but his albums are ****in good..
Smokin' 01-10-2007, 10:54 PM He's not the King of LA or anything like that but he has wicked flow, a cool ass voice, and production teams to back him up. I could care less how good his lyrics are as long as he is spitting some gangster **** and has those beats to back it up. I really have listened to the Doctor's Advocate everyday since it came out and it still hasn't gotten old.
Can't wait until his next release!

Greatest_D 01-11-2007, 01:55 AM Maybe I am the only one? Lol. This is a lot better than the argument I had once with someone who tried to convince me that The Game is better than Big L was!

The Game is not better than Big L...

Greatest_D 01-11-2007, 04:08 AM Guess that's where we disagree.
Tha Greatest 01-11-2007, 05:03 AM You don't think the Doctors Avocate and The Documentary are tight albums>?

You're not the only one. There's only so many threads like this that some of us end up replying to - read through the archives in this forum and you will see where many of us stand on a number of these new rappers that are garnering possibly unwarranted praise...
The guys flow is boring to me, but i haven't heard that much of his new album.

People from The West support Game because of his charisma, character, and his ability to put out great albums...plus, the fact that The West has pretty much been starving in mainstream rap, gives people more of a reason to support him.

That's subjective, and people have different criteria of what they feel a great emcee has to offer. No sense in arguing over an opinion.

Again, subjective opinions on what albums you felt were better than Game's. Some people love albums that they could just cruise down the strip and bump. Not all Hip Hop music was meant to be thought provoking. And do me a favor and name one Hip Hop album ever released that didn't rely on production ? Hip Hop production is the spinal cord of the culture !

You might not like him as an emcee, but what you have to understand is that Hip Hop/Rap is a form of entertainment, so people are not only supporting an artist based on his/her skill, they are buying into a character, no different than a WWE Wrestler.
