View Full Version : So, Whats the hardest part about learning how to box whatevathehell 01-07-2007, 12:00 AM Ima have to say just learning the basic manuevers, I just started, Im trying to get the fundamentals down pat cuz you know how important fundamentals are...for anything. so, what is it? Samuel F. 01-07-2007, 12:10 AM The mental side of sparring for me...I get in there and its just so hard to think, and when I get hard (body shots are the worst) I keep going for the rest of round I don't wanna go another round....It comes with time I guess. I've been going to the gym for over two months now and i've sparred about 5 times. yrrej 01-07-2007, 01:37 AM Getting hit in the head...... Trick 01-07-2007, 04:59 AM I find it's drive. In boxing you really gotta push yourself. On the bag for example. Doing pushups for example. You really gotta be able to develop explosive power while tired. And that takes balls. Also, as that takes balls, I find that really pushing yourself helps your "heart" as it's come to be known mgkirkpatrick 01-07-2007, 09:00 AM yeah the drive. knowin how much it takes to be good and then going after it. i cant commit personally so i guess that^ hemichromis 01-07-2007, 11:43 AM learning to take a punch and not: A) going crying home to mommy B) getting angry and swinging like austen powers RockyMarcianofan00 01-07-2007, 12:48 PM Well first the hardest is gunna vary from person to person...But I think the harest part is doing a good slip....Your supposed to be able to slip a punch but keep your eyes on your opponent, not an easy thing to do at all... fraidycat 01-07-2007, 01:31 PM For me, it was overcoming the monkey-fear that kicks in when I take a heavy punch. To stay calm and breathe, and keep strategizing, when you can taste your own blood and you see stars out of one eye. Explaining black eyes and weird dietary choices gets old, too. :blackeye: :puke: Ash-Mckean 01-07-2007, 02:35 PM It is the mental strength (The drive), No breaks which causes you to stumble sometimes but you have to keep going until you almost pass out lol. Exige Jr 01-07-2007, 03:58 PM The mental and physical demands in general make this sport the hardest sport in the world, in my opinion. Southpaw Stinger 01-07-2007, 04:04 PM I find it hard to just go that little bit further, to just push myself a little bit harder. Once you've maxed out it takes mental and physical toughness to carry on. hotbox2316 01-07-2007, 07:33 PM hardest part i think is staying calm and breathing... Tysonisgod 01-07-2007, 07:38 PM for me, i had to lose the macho stuff, like when i took a big punch id tap my chin, ive done this from a very young age, makes some really funny videos from when i was a boy and my first trainer tryed to teach me how to punch, but i got took away from boxin at 5 and wasnt back in it till i was 16, dad said it was to dangerous for me, but i was thai boxin from 12-16(yea dad cos thai boxin is better for me lol) anyway, yea i used to tap ma chin if a big punch got through, mostly cos i was pissed off cos i had a really good defence Southpaw16 01-07-2007, 07:43 PM Being calm and collected after getting punched in the head. That is the toughest part. Also dodging punches. When getting punched at, there are several natural reactions like closing your eyes and tensing up. -Antonio- 01-08-2007, 12:01 AM The mental part. You cant think too much. Ive only done light sparring, but even then I was second guessing everything. I like most have had times where I wanted to quit. Its all apart of being mentally tough. Boxing is slowly molding me into a mentally, physically stronger person. Animal Squabbs 01-08-2007, 01:28 AM the hardest part for me, actually the only hard part for me, is the speed bag. I dont know how to do it, no ones ever taught me how to use it and I have never really had enough access to it to pick it up by myself like I did jumping rope.. Chipper 01-09-2007, 03:04 AM My dad showed me how to use the speed bag. The trick to it is counting how many times it goes back and forth. Hit it with your left and watch it hit the top 3 times. Then hit it again with your left. And count out loud 1-2-3 punch 1-2-3 punch. When you get a rhythm going try the right hand. And that's my limited experience w/ the speed bag. Rockin' 01-09-2007, 03:41 AM Ima have to say just learning the basic manuevers, I just started, Im trying to get the fundamentals down pat cuz you know how important fundamentals are...for anything. so, what is it? Learning how to eat them and keep your wits about you, cause eventually its going to happen...................Rockin':boxing: BigCol 01-09-2007, 08:50 PM I agree with the guy that said boxing is about being mentally tough. I cant count how many kids I've seen quit the gym because the sparring or training was too hard. dario 01-09-2007, 11:13 PM Being patient. Nothing comes fast in boxing; the speed, the skill, nor the physique. To get real and sturdy gains, you have to be very patient. You're going to fall down a lot (not literarly), but you're just going to have to pick yourself up and try again. Also, you won't start out doing everything correctly and at a fast pace. You're going to have to do everything slowly until you get it right, and then speed it up. And lastly, you're going to need a lot of discipline to not slack off on your training nor your diet. Once again.. nothing will come quick in boxing. You're going to have to be very patient. Trick 01-10-2007, 12:19 AM Ya patience, patience to be able to take a punch, patience in training, paitience leading up to a fight... patience it key by the way boxingguy 1226, who is that girl in your profile pick, don't tell me it's your girl, because I'm in love yrrej 01-10-2007, 10:54 PM The absolute hardest thing overall is developing the timing..... vBulletin® v3.7.1, Copyright ©2000-2008, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
