I sparred 4 rounds total. The first round was against this mexican kid, probably 5-9(Im 5-7). Needless to say, All i remember is hitting him with a good body shot and then the rounds over, but i Know that I got demolished because they put another guy in there. The next guy was pretty weak but I was so drained that I couldnt put up much defense(plus Ive been at this gym for a month and a half and really have not been trained at all) so while I DID outpoint him, he landed a shot that almost blacked me out. I learned several things from this:

Im not in shape.

My trainers dont train.

Sparring at my gym is just fighting with 16oz gloves and headgear.

I dont have a particularly good chin.

I really want to go to law school, and if my chin isnt good Im assuming my brain will take a ton of punishment. Should I quit now and save my brain or just keep running with it and turn out ok?

and if u got beat your first spar its natural. no1s going to pick up ali, tysons skills off of 1 spar

When i 1st sparred i thought i was King Kong coz i was beatin all my mates asses! Then the trainer threw me in with the Scottish light middle weight champ, he took it easy on me i could tell, i caught him with 1 good shot and he felt it! Thats where it all started to go wrong for me! He opened up on me with everything! I didnt go down but damn he ****ed me up! Stick at it, the fitness will cum. My trainers are pretty **** too by the way.

Sounds like no-one has a good trainer. :D I'm in the same situation lol. You just gotta keep persevering until they really take note of you, which my trainer is starting to. Then they will spend a lot of time with you, maybe even out of gym hours like I do with my coach at the moment. Just stick at it.

And about the sparring session, 99% of people do **** on their first time because they watch a couple of fights or maybe Rocky and think it looks easy, but they're soon overwhelmed once they step in the ring. I was exactly the same. I had to spar a middleweight amateur and he was a ****ing hard hitter. But I kept at it and now I'm the hard hitter that's stepping in the ring and showing some flash.

Just don't give up on the sport. It takes a while to get used to.

Its not that dont take note of me, they do, but they dont seem to know much! lol! No1 at the club even really talks about boxing other than our fights and stuff, no talk of Toney vs Peter, most of them dont even know them, its pathetic! Im not driving miles for training tho!

yep.and they put all there attention to them. like this girl boxer came.27years old. my coach restarted the 3 minute timer without tellin no1 just so she could get a fresh start.WTF!also hes talkin about sparrin at another gym but he kept mentioning to me that there will be ppl for her to spar also.like i give a ****! he helps her do situps,he has a training plan for her,she does the mitts and all the concentration goes on her when she comes, when im obviously the hardest puncher and the 1 with the best defense, quickest hands. but its like he doesnt give a damn. that same day i broke the 50lb bag ahahah.i saw a small tear on it and i kept hooking that spot for like 3 rounds and it tore open.ahaha

Thats how it is at my gym too.

btw, I thought I was in shape when I sparred because I was doing the daily gym grind like it was nothing but apparently thats not enough. Doesnt help that I play a couple hours of BBall a day I guess.

That'd well piss me off. Talk to him about it or something because i could eventually hold you bck.

Breaking the bag will take his attention off her though, if only for a moment. :D

Awesome. I remember the first time I sparred - I got beat up pretty bad and he was takin' it easy on me. Just remember, when you fight, fight with an ego but dont let in club-boxing politics get in the way of you learning how to learn the proper technique.

Let me tell you. I have a great chin, never been off my feet before. But my first sparring session, which went two rounds, I almost didn't make it out of the first round. I literally took one swing, and was out of breath. I went to the ropes at the end of the first and got caught with some Castillo-Corrales KO **** and then the buzzer went off. If you are thinking about not fighting after your first sparring session cuz you got roughed up, maybe you aren't the type to be boxing anyways. Good luck with school.

I sparred yesterday for the first time in 3 months, and the first round I forgot my breathing. I kept gassing out and the guy owned my ass. Really embarrassing. At one point I had him in the corner and was just nailing him, in too close for him to hit back, and I ran out of steam just as I could tell that he was in trouble; if I could have kept him there for a couple more flurries I've have put him on the canvas. The next round he was very careful to get out of the corners quickly and he just plain outboxed me. Live and learn.

So much to remember in the heat of battle!
