View Full Version : Chuck Liddell doesn't have power.
robot_monkey 01-01-2007, 09:59 PM Here is how it works. If one man has a reach advantage, when the other man throws his punches he is closer, giving the man with the longer reach more leverage. The man with the longer reach throws his punches at an angle and the other fighter is always in the path of the angle. When the punch impacts it is not fully extended and so the force exerted is more than would be at full extension. Notice that Chuck never throws straight punches because he knows what he can do coming in from the side. That would also explain why Tito was able to deliver so many straight punches to Chuck's face, his arms are outside and he can't block.
Tysonisgod 01-01-2007, 10:21 PM hav u acctually watched chucks fights? other than with tito
Harms 01-02-2007, 12:22 AM Considering his last 6 fights have ended in KO, I would have to disagree. The punch in the first round to the side of Tito's head knocked Tito silly. Now if you want to say that Chuck is a bad boxer, I could see what you are saying.

chuck isn't a great boxer, he throws looping power shots, but it's been working for him so far, i say if it ain't broke, don't fix it. most guys in the UFC don't have the greatest technique as boxers anyway. liddell does what he needs to do and trains hard

That is what I was saying. He is not a great boxer, but to say he doesn't have power is idiotic.
robot_monkey 01-03-2007, 09:17 AM Power is a relative term. When you state that Chuck Liddell has power you imply that it is somehow beyond human. It's not. he knocks people out, but how can you guage Chuck Liddell's power? Is it the same way you believe the movies?
Harms 01-03-2007, 10:30 AM While I agree angles, leverage, core and leg strength, and technique all play apart in the effect of punches, you could also say that all these things could equate to power in a strike. Do I think Chuck is form the planet Krypton? No. Do I think he is from a Jet Li movie? No. Do I think he has more power in his punches than say Forrest Griffen or Tito? Yes. The proof is in the pudding. It's like the saying, What is obsene? I can't describe it, but I know it when I see it.
robot_monkey 01-03-2007, 10:44 AM It's like making a movie; if you cut the film right, it creates the desired effect.
Harms 01-03-2007, 10:56 AM I guess what it comes down to is what do you define power as?
brownpimp88 01-03-2007, 11:50 AM If ryoto machida has a good chin, i can see him beating liddell. I have seen his fights and his striking technique is far superior to liddell's.
robot_monkey 01-03-2007, 01:23 PM Obscene is not relative, obscenity is in the intent. You can say Chuck Liddell knocks people out decisively. Like you stated before, Chuck Liddell has more power in his punches than Griffin and Ortiz. So, whenever you say Chuck Liddell has power it must be qualified. And anyway, people who don't have power cannot be used to compare the power of others. Also, Liddells body type can create the illusion that he has power. Most people will think Liddell has more power than Fedor; his hand move so slow that one assumes that their heavy.

I agree with you to a certain extent. Ko's are not always relative to punching power. When you have dopes sitting in front of you not moving their head, Not taking advantage of different angles just coming straight up the middle and retreating straight back, or even worse just standing there in your power zone. you are going to murder them every time. I have a scenario for MMA fans to ponder. How many Kick boxers or wrestlers have been successfull at boxng? 0 using their attack methods gets them ko'd almost every single time. Hence Chucks string of KO's Same mistake over and over. Rampage Jackson has a boxing background what happened when he faught chuck? Chuckles got k'd the f out.

But I wouldn't put Couture or Horn as dopes just sitting in front of you not moving their head.... Chuck had a bad night against Rampage. I wasn't to impressed with his fight with Lindland, so we shall wait and see what happens in the rematch.
And robot monkey, so would you say no fighter has power? This might clear up alot.
robot_monkey 01-03-2007, 06:20 PM The question is, does any fighter not have power?

Will I need to snatch the pebble from your hand next? LOL To answer your you question, Chuck apparently doesn't which you stated at the very beginning with the thread title, "Chuck does not have power".
robot_monkey 01-04-2007, 01:18 AM That's only a play on the characterization posed by others. Anyways, cheerios.

Agree and Disagree.
Horn did mess up and should have known better than to fight Chuck the way he did. He was in Chucks range the whole fight. Amazingly he lasted as long as he did. Horn has a boxing background which disapointed me to see him use those tactics. Coutour on the other hand was Chucks signature battle. He did everything right as he did the first time Chuck proved himself that night. I'll admit he hits hard as a truck. But ignorance on the part of other fighters has helped him obtain "legendary" status. I won't take anything away from him. I don't know about a "bad night" against Rampage. I train in Irvine Clinton originated in a gym I spar at sometimes I've heard horror stories about his power. Chuck didn't look comfortable that night and I think Jacksons strength had somthing to do with it. At any rate Chuck has power, Not skill. He has smarts, put power and brains together you get a champion. Obviosly. So shall you if you put skill in the equation. Pride fighters crossing over to UFC may bring the demise of Chuck Lidell. Which really is good for the sport. Anything can and will happen in MMA fights. The greatest can and do lose. It makes it exciting to me.
Easy-E 01-06-2007, 04:22 AM Yes, Chuck Liddell has power.
yes, power is a relative term.
Addison 01-06-2007, 07:11 AM Chuck has power as far as I can tell.
One punch power.
But the UFC guys are chinless - so it's hard to say.
Atnan 01-10-2007, 12:52 AM chucks last 6 fights have been all rematches of wreslters not strikers....chuck doesnt have knock out power aganist B+ class striker ( watch his fight aganist Quinton Rampage)....**** aganist his fight with Overeem, he was getting knocked down and getting his ass kicked till overeem gass`ed ( which he seems to be doing every fight)...its sad but the truth
Atnan 01-10-2007, 12:54 AM Chuck has power as far as I can tell.

2swell k-wells 01-10-2007, 02:19 AM Ya there are alotta pride fans here that hate or dislike UFC. But a guy that would be good against Rampage or Liddel would be The Dean Of Mean Kieth Jardine...he has a good chin, hard kicks, very good stand up, sorta sloppy like chuck also but if he catches u he will knock ya out. He won against Griffin and I still say Jardine beat Bonnar. But I dont know if ya would listen to this one, i jus think tha guy is a good match up for Chuck, they almost tha same style.

"if he catches you he'll knock you out"?? jeeze thanx for pointing out the obvious..
the guy still needs alot of improvment and this is a reoccuring problem in the UFc.. they got all these chumps from tuf cause theyr'e to cheap to buy a real fighter and now nobody can compete for the belt.. ya real good..
2swell k-wells 01-10-2007, 03:23 PM dude pride sucks ok, why defend something that is so bad? Ya know that UFC is the thing to watch. **** pride and all thier fighters, let them keep doing what they doing, being the best in tha world or whatever, nobody gives a ****. UFC is jus way better to watch.
Too cheap, so they are so cheap that they couldnt get Cro Cop and Rampage to work for me?? ya that is a real cheap move by dana white. Ya talk about how pride fighters lose in pride and come to ufc and become champ, well that same wanderlia silva did tha same thing when he lost to tito ortiz.
2swell k-wells 01-10-2007, 03:25 PM Too cheap, so they are so cheap that they couldnt get Cro Cop and Rampage to work for Em??

I don't see a problem with TUF. It not only helped bring a huge following to the UFC, it also helps develop talent. It was genius of Dana to start TUF. It is also one of the reasons Pride's CEO said that they can't compete for fighters cause UFC has so much money.
yrrej 01-10-2007, 10:25 PM Is that why he stops everyone with punches?

I don't think it's because of TUF as much as pride loseing their cable deal in japan..
And before the moron speaks.. Pride had a cable deal immediatly after being introduced to the public.. It took the UFC 9yrs.. now that is fukin funny..
Tysonisgod 01-11-2007, 08:19 AM But the UFC guys are chinless - so it's hard to say.
Like who?
