View Full Version : height/weight chart
bobweaver 01-01-2007, 01:17 PM this is what i feel is good weight for certain heights for boxing
5'5-5'7- 100-120
5'8-5'10 120-152
6'-6'2 150-heavy weight
I have noticed that at almost all the shows i go to for amateur boxing the tall kid will win if he knows how to move and use his height and jab to keep distance. So id say to the kid whos 5'9 90 pounds if thats your natural weight for your height and you eat as much as you want that weight is perfect for you, go in there and fight and use your reach and move a lot, it will be to your advantage that your probably 5+ inches taller than everyone in your weight class.
Allen_Poe 01-02-2007, 12:41 AM i'm 6'1" 141. can't put on weight to save my life, and I eat alot.

That chart may apply to typical sedentary males, but it's not remotely accurate for performance athletes. I'm 5'9, 172 lbs. this morning, according to the chart I'm "moderately overweight." I'll admit I'm not "body beautiful" but I run a 5:00 mile and my heart rate is 49 bpm. Here are pics of me at 205 ("Severe Overweight" by the chart) and 175 lbs ("Moderate Overweight") respectively. Overweight, my ass.

fraidycat 02-20-2007, 12:32 AM I should add, that you need to learn to work with what the Good Lord gave ya. If you're short and broad-shouldered, work it into your style. If you're a beanpole, work it into your style.

I was definitely headed for full-on obese there for awhile; had I gained another 20 lbs I'd have had some sweet boobage going on. I'm so glad to be back down to an A-cup.

My weight fluctuates. In the morning after I use the head I weigh 171-172; by evening I weigh 176-178. I drink a lot of fluids during the day -- water and green tea, especially -- and I think that's a big part of it. I was going nuts trying to figure out how I could gain or lose 5 lbs in a day and then I started weighing myself at the same time every day and I'm now getting readings I feel I can trust.

the worst thing in a man is to have man boobs. I once seen a guy in Tyra show who had this problem after he dramatically lost wieght. damn he had some big issue of insucecutiy and stuff and even cheated other women wear his t-shirt

Bear4228 02-20-2007, 01:52 AM Took me about a year, went pretty quick. When I do something I do it, well full on non stop lol. I also had a great friend to work out with so I always had someone pushing me left and right. And ya I feel better now, iv since gained a lil bit back but im working towards my new goal of 210-200. Im 240 right now at 6'3. Working out with a partner made ALL the difference.

keep it up man dont take this as a gay comment but im looking forward to seeing the before and after pics
Man you guys talkin bout losin 70lbs suddenly my weight loss doesnt seem so big anymore lol
Bear4228 02-20-2007, 02:31 AM well, any weight lose is a good thing. And in some cases its good to gain haha. One thing I did that helped me ALOT was when I went to eat I pictured the food in front of me in my stomach and thought...should all of that be there? About 70% of the time...it wasnt so I told myself not to eat it lol. But being at such a high weight you lose it like it water lol, soo crazy. BUt I lost it slow enough and did enough weight training that I didnt have any excess skin. So I got real lucky there. But dont get me wrong yo, Im a BIG guy, and I got some lovehandles, but when I want to I can lose it. Its allllll in the head.
And Iv been thinkin bout taking some pics with my sisters camera. But right now Im still cheating with my food haha. Ill take some when I can and once I get 100% seious about it I wil lstart keeping a weekly log of pics. Ill try and find my 300lbs - 230 pics later for ya.
^^ good stuff! right now the problem isnt so much weight loss but maintaining my weight. I absolutely love to eat and its so hard to keep in the 151-154 range for boxing and Wrestling. Im not a big guy but im one of those kids who can demolish 3 footlong subs in a single sitting
Bear4228 02-20-2007, 04:56 AM haha I remember doing **** like that in bets haha. I went to chickfila with some friends one day and they bet me the price of the meal that I couldnt eat it all. It was a 50 dollar party platter. 200 nuggets! Those were good times lol.
Maintaining weight seems really hard to me, iv either been gaining or losing...never staying the same.

I can still eat an entire large pizza in an evening. It is very, very hard to not just eat until I'm full. The Clean Plate Club was the worst thing to happen to my brain. A lot of dieting down was just eating half-portions; a lot of time throughout the day I'll just have a couple of quick bites of something -- a banana, a few pieces of beef jerky, a carton of milk -- and it has taken months to get my brain trained to accept that a couple of bites every few hours is enough fuel. Hunger used to trigger insecurity.
BrooklynBomber 02-20-2007, 12:05 PM I am 5.8 and 160, which is moderately overweight by their standarts, but you can see my pic in get in shape contest thread.

Evil_Meat 02-20-2007, 12:14 PM lol very inaccurate chart... im 6 foot and a half and weigh about 200 pounds with definition. It can't factor in framesize properly because i just have a very wide frame with big bones.

Congrats on dropping the weight. Big improvement but I still think you have a bit of a ways to go. Your body fat % still seems very high and your body is a bit disproportioned. Not knockin ya homie, just critiquing you to help you take it a bit further.
You definitely need to add some mass to your arms, they are very asymmetrical to your body. And the traps as well...you may genetically not be predisposed to being able to get a sixpack, but you def need to tighten up that midsection a bit. I'd focus on lower ab excercises, cuz the upper abs will follow.
And a 5 minute mile is crazy! I suck at running, think the best I did at a mile was 7 mins and change.
Young Legend 02-20-2007, 03:57 PM Im 17... 5'8" and 130 lbs. I wanna know what my body fat % is...

Those pics were 6 months ago. I'm looking better but I still have a ways to go. I haven't been worrying so much about the bodybuilding / looking pretty side of things as I am just getting strong and fast and letting my body do what it's going to do. I do cleans, deadlifts, and squats, and run and box. My bodyfat, according to my electric scale, is 13% right now. I think it was 16% in that pic. Keep in mind, too, I'm 36 and have been a 200-lb. wad of cookie dough for the last several years. It'll come. The main reason I posted that pic is to show how ****ed-up that chart was. According to the chart, I'm "obese."
Bear4228 02-20-2007, 07:37 PM **** I HATE RUNNING!!!! The only cardio I ever did was on those elyptical machines. Which aacutally worked out well cuz running with like 280 lbs and man boobs is just wrong for everyone :P I remember when I weighted my most, man running and carido were horrrrrrribbblllee. I couldnt even do one full push up haha. But ya that chart is dumd imo. I never step on scales, all they do is keeo your mind set on numbers and anytime that number changes either more up or just a lil down its depressing for alot of people. The real change comes from mirrors images, attitudes, and when you can really tell when your starting to get more stamina and evergy. I got the power right now, I just cant last long yet. Work in progress :P :P

Darkstranger 02-21-2007, 11:07 AM I agree that these charts can be quite misleading. I'm 6'3" and a slender 238 pounds. Which makes me way over weight according to many charts. I find they don't take into account your muscle mass or bone density. My doctor told me I should be 196 pounds max. I haven't been that light since I was 14 and I'm now 27!

once again this chart represents weight for normal skinny non athletic people just normal weight and yes its correct for normal weight people its not for atheletes and especially not boxers!
