From www.mmaweekly.com :
O.k. try to follow us for a minute. Frank Mir was going to fight Vladimir Matyushenko at UFC 40.... then he said he was going to quit fighting..... and now, MMAWeekly.com has learned that he is fighting again, this time against Gan McGee at UFC 41. McGee's camp confirmed the fight to MMAWeekly on New Year's Day.
Mir is one of the most talented young fighters in the game today, but his toughest battle hasn't been any one opponent, it's been his own inner demons he has been fighting over the past six months.
Mir has had a lot on his plate recently. He sustained a devastating loss to Ian Freeman at UFC 38 in London; it was his first loss of his career. He was so upset at his performance that went to the UFC offices in Las Vegas and personally apologized for his performance. After that, everyone thought he was back on track and he could be on his way to greatness.
Since then Mir has went through a serious relationship and many people have suggested a child is on the way. Mir has not confirmed that story as of press time. Mir has had family tell him to stop fighting and there was even speculation that he visited a psychic who told him to stay away from the sport of mixed martial arts. In any case, for whatever reason, Mir is ready for a fresh start. He is looking forward to resuming his fight career and he will do it against Gan McGee.
McGee is looking to become a force in the heavyweight division in the UFC. He fought very well early in his career against Josh Barnett, he has now defeated Pedro Rizzo, and if can defeat Frank Mir, he will put himself in a position to possibly contend for the UFC title. McGee has won many tournaments and championships in other federations but seems to have finally realized his place in fighting and has taken his training and his conditioning to a new level under the watchful eye of Chuck Liddell and trainer John Hackleman.
This will be a very interesting matchup for many reasons as this will be the first fight where Frank Mir will be outweighed by an opponent. McGee has never faced a submission expert like Mir. Look for an interesting matchup between McGee vs Mir as it has now been signed at UFC 41.
