hey folks,

just turned 20 a few months back. i have been an avid boxing fan for quite some time, but recently thinking about getting myself into it. would it be too late to start boxing and hopefully one day maybe turn pro? i know it's wishful thinking, and the farthest i would probably want to go is amateur fighting. also, im about 5'7 and weigh in well over 200lbs! and yes im working on losing all my fat!

great forum by the way, thanks for listening!

Naw man, its not too late. Get started as soon as you can.
I would suggest aiming your goals lower.
First goal should be to lose the excess weight.
The Next would be to increase stamina.
After that would be find a gym and train
With some time you can start to compete.
This is when you will decide if u Really wanna go to the pros.
Just remember boxing isnt a game, people can ger seriously hurt.
Good luck

I started at age 35, 5'9", 205 lbs, a year ago tomorrow. I lost nearly 40 lbs by the time I had my first local exhibition bout last October, and am starting training for my second match on Monday. I, like you, intend to eventually compete as an amateur -- except I'll be in the Masters Division, which is for us old guys (35+).

It's never too late to get started. Good luck.

Its never too late man. Besides, being an accomplished amatuer is damn impressive, and something a lot of guys cant claim. Im with you on the weight thing. Im about 5'9 220 I gained over 30 lbs from June to November. Im just now starting to lose it , and its tough, but boxing will motivate you. If you love the sport as much as you say, boxing will be fun.

Bernard Hopkins didn't start boxing until he was 17 and turned pro just before he was 24 so you should atleast reach amatuer fighting aslong as your dedicated and you train hard enough.

Good Luck

**** that, just go to a gym and start training, don't worry about losign weight and gaining stamina on your own. get into a boxing gym, if you're a real boxing fan, you won't get enough of the place. get in shape in the gym and then start sparring. if someone asks you your first day just say maybe in a week or two when I get into shape. nothing is forced man. hit a gym up and get in shape in the gym, trust me.

Dude said he's 5'7 and well over 200lbs! U think he can just show up to a gym and just start working out with the others?

The **** is intense man, and if ur overweight or just out of shape its gonna be real hard to train.

And **** that "if ur a real boxing fan bull****" when ur hurting and in pain that doesnt mean ****.

Most people only last a day to a week at a boxing gym because they're not in good enought shape to handle the intensity of boxing, even if its just the warm ups, rope and running.

To the thread starter do urself a favor and atleast start running and try to improve ur overall conditioning. Trust me u WILL thank me once u get to the gym.

Good stuff fraidycat. I am also 35. I just started boxing training last november. I dont have a trainer yet, but I am at a boxing gym now. Joined in May. Im glad to hear someone else is on the same journey I am on! Poster. Your not too old. I would also agree with Gio. Start conditioning now. Do jumprope at home and start running everyday at least for a month. Its very hard work at the gym and you dont want to get discouraged. Train hard. You can do it!

as long as you go in the gym with a positive mindset and don't get negative when you find out how tough it really is, you'll be aight.

you americans are lucky lol, as i live in not that rich country, sp it's very difficult to find boxing club around me, theres like 10 boxing clubs in all my country, like i live in a small town, so there's no boxing club, i love boxing and i watch all boxing fights etc. i know alot about boxing theoretic but not physically, im very mad for this, but i cant do anything, just bodybuilding thats all i do, but i like boxing alot more :(
