This is my 6th amatuer fight that took place in July of this year. I rematched the same guy in my 7th fight which I have a video up of already on this forum.
Chipper 12-29-2006, 04:57 PM Which one are you?
Mr. Ryan 12-29-2006, 04:58 PM Are you in the red or the blue?
Mr. Ryan 12-29-2006, 05:01 PM The guy in the blue is wasting too much energy with foot movement. It's not effective foot movement and since he's bringing his feet close together, he's going to wear his legs out cuz he's straightening and then contracting them too much. But I think you're the red guy and you have solid technique, particularly when you work behind the jab. You're letting your man get off first with the crazy punches and then trying to counter when he's finished. If you worked behind your jab more often, you'd be much better off. He cannot throw straight punches so you'd have the advantage. Also, your left hook is too wide so you're compromising your power a bit but it's the amateurs so it's a little different.
Super_Lightweight 12-29-2006, 05:04 PM My bad, I forgot to say which one I am. I'm the guy in the red and black.
So basically you think I just need to let the hands go more, with more jabs and more of everything in general.
cyberthugpatrol 12-29-2006, 05:08 PM I like what I saw.
I like the hands up. the cool, calm, collective look. More straight punches. otherwise look real damn good.

Yeah, but from a distance. Are you the kind of guy who likes to fight inside? I'm not sure, but I don't assume so cuz you stand tall in there. You stand tall, but you do it right. What I'd like to have seen more definitely was the jab, cuz you let him get inside where he can let his hands go, even though I can see that you want to let him do so so you can open up with a counter when he's finished. Even still, with the amateurs all ****ed up, you run the risk of getting robbed if you don't establish your distance.
One thing I think you'd benefit from is using the uppercut on the inside, get inside some of these kids' shots and just wack him with the uppercut when he leans his head inside. I think you have excellent skills, and this guy should've been a breeze. But I commend your composure cuz you never lost your cool even for your 6th fight and were able to pick his shots off with your gloves and follow up accordingly. Karma for that

Thanks a lot, dude. I appreciate that mucho. By the way, FYI for yall, if you click on the video while its playing it will take you to the video page on youtube where you can make the vid a little tiny bit smaller, which allows for clearer video and makes the vid go more smoothly...of course it is a bit smaller, on the downside. All you have to do is click the left box of the two boxes in the lower right corner of the vid.

Yeah I like to fight on the inside, even though it can get rough in there. Mainly I try to emulate the Winkster because it's a solid style that isn't too hard to copy IF you can stay calm and focused. But I believe in being versatile so I would like to fight from the outside better. I don't try it that much though even in sparring. I like to stand in there IF I can, and make them get discouraged due to me just being there in front of them very cool/composed. My trainer said the same thing about this guy; should have been a breeze. I'm trying to get in much better shape because apparently I should be KOing this type of fighter. I agree big time about the uppercuts...it's just risky to throw them sometimes. He was prime for some good uppercuts. I think I got a few on him in the rematch we had. I'll probably end up fighting him again later on.

To land the uppercuts, you have to bend your knees more because throwing them standing straight up is the only time I find it dangerous. This guy really would've been a breeze if you went to the body, but of course you'd have to completely alter your body stance for that to be effective. You stand straight up alot, and throwing uppercuts and body shots in that stance is dangerous. Also, try to keep your chin tucked a little better cuz you were a little square and he was getting a better target than he should've. But that guy couldn't fight that much, he had horrible footwork and no coordination of hands and feet.
Ash-Mckean 12-29-2006, 08:25 PM I liked the way you fight, The guy in Blue wasted time with his footwork and you had the counters all good.
Exige Jr 12-29-2006, 08:54 PM Every time I watch your style it reminds me of the way Naseem Hamed fought Vuyani Bungu a few years back.

Plodding along, but getting in range properly and then unloading well, with a cool relaxed style. Taking your time, picking your shots, seeing what they have to offer. Making your mistakes but rarely paying for your mistakes. Almost identical to the video. If you get a chance, watch it.
With that said, I repeat what I said before; I would love to box you. It would be a great match and something both of us could learn from. If only you could see me... If I lived in Florida I would come down for sparring but I am in the UK so its not happening.
Props on the fight... One tip I would take note of if I was you. Work on being more mobile. Walking around the ring is ok but I think as your fights get harder fast fighters will be in and out quickly outpointing you. It will be Jones-Toney all over again.
Super_Lightweight 12-29-2006, 11:20 PM I'd love to visit the UK one summer. If I ever do, perhaps I'll make it to your city.
