View Full Version : Vitali Klitschko; "I Still Want Mike Tyson"
Rick Reeno 10-12-2004, 01:35 AM BoxingScene caught up with the WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko to get his thoughts on his upcoming bout with "Mike Tyson destroyer" Danny Williams. Vitali always the gentleman, also answered our questions regarding his younger brother Wladimir and his plans past the Danny Williams fight.
The most shocking comments made by Vitali is that he still craves a fight with Mike Tyson, even with Tyson's recent knock-out loss to future opponent Danny Williams.
BoxingScene: Thank you giving us some of your time Vitali. There are some experts that see your bout with Danny Williams as a mismatch. Do you think Williams will present a challenge to you. [details (http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&id=105)]
Rick Reeno 10-12-2004, 01:41 AM Vitali is a real class act.
Pound4Pound1986 10-12-2004, 01:45 AM well he better keep dreaming cuz thats all it is going to be a dream of beating tyson, vitali doesnt have the defense to go up against tyson
oh please. How many times do you wanna see poor Mike kiss canvass?
TYSON IS SHOT FINISHED NO MORE, HAD IT, NOT A FORCE FINITO, DONE DUSTED, SHOULD RETIRE.
The issue is not who would win but why on earth does vitali wish to fight a shot fighter. To me this is a lose / lose situation not dissimilar to the one Holmes found him in when he beat Ali.
It would prove nothing Tyson is a 3 round shadow of his former self and it pains me to see him coming back for more beatings.
I wouldnt pay for it on ppv. lets put it that way, tyson should retire and get into training fighters or commentating, sort his money situation out somehow but not in the ring. Im afraid those years are long gone.
realheavyhands 10-12-2004, 09:31 AM tyson has to hand power and hit harder then corey sanders if corey sanders could do what he did tyson would knock vitali out.. it will happen late 2005 0r 2006 so talk is cheap
Sorry but i dont agree Vitali has a solid chin and took what lewis could throw at him, Tyson couldnt ko williams (who does have a good chin) but at 40 how on earth Tyson going to spark VK?
admittedly Tyson is still fearsome for 3 rounds but get through that and everyone knows he is there for the taking.
Williams has a better chance of beating Vitali than Tyson.
Explosivo 10-12-2004, 10:10 AM I think Vitali would beat the ass of washed up Tyson and I dont think he should be held in any higher regard if he does eventually fight Mike and Beat him. I dont know why he even wants this fight?? The only person who would have anything to gain would be Mike Tyson.

What did Corrie do? Land one good punch near the end of the 1st round, and be a human punching bag for the rest of the fight. Have fun Tyson.
realheavyhands 10-12-2004, 03:45 PM had klit runnin a whole bunch

Sanders didn't KD Vitali though by nearly knocking him over the ropes like he did to Rahman and Vitali also didn't lose more than one round against him like Rahman did.
psychopath 10-16-2004, 07:58 AM There are so many active fighters to chose from why ask for Tyson? Vitali better be careful of what he wish for . . . if Mike can go over his injury completely he is still very much capable of destroying him and his career. ;)
tracylee 10-16-2004, 10:59 AM I honestly dont see what he has to gain by fighting Tyson, even if he beat him. If he won, everyone would say "well, it was a washed up, tired Tyson that has been ko'ed by Williams, so it means nothing" and if he lost it would be " a washed up, tired Tyson , who has been ko'ed by Williams for pity's sake actually took out the champ, maybe he has a chin like his bro". I'm saying this out of respect for Vitali (so none of you Klitschko fan's try and twist this one around) it seems a 'no win' situation for Vitali either way. Other than making alot of money, what would be the point? I can see no bragging rights over a victory over Tyson whatsoever.

its more of a personal thing. its like Lebron James wanting a piece of Michael Jordan the year after Jordan retired for the last time. Nothing to gain, except personal satisfaction.

....Nothing to twist around!! What you said makes perfect sense to me. Vitali needs to get over his obsession with Tyson and take on the real contenders and other belt holders.

I agree. Vitali should consider himself to be better than the ranks of Tyson.

I'm sure he does consider himself better than Tyson, but like i said its about personal satisfaction, not about adding to his accomplishments or legacy.

Okay, I'll buy that. Now, tell me what's personally satisfying about beating a washed up Tyson? I really want to know, and you are a fan of Vitali's and can maybe give me some perspective on this. :)

its not about beating a washed up tyson, its about beating him, no matter what he is perceived as now. compare it to the Lebron James wanting a piece of Michael Jordan, Jordan was 40, James was either 19 or 20. It's about wanting a piece of your hero when you get the chance, whenever that chance may come.James came into the NBA the season after Jordan hung em up for good. I bet that will bother him for the rest of his life, maybe not a lot, but I understand where they are both coming from. If james was to get Jordan one on one and win, he would gain nothing because a prime Jordan would destroy James without hesitation, same goes for Tyson, although Jordan was in his prime forever it seemed like and Tyson was only in his prime for a few years. Im not too big a fan of Vitali, I like to watch his glass jawed, no heart brother fight :D , but i understand why he wants tyson, its not about accomplishment, its about the satisfaction of taking on your hero.

Oh, okay, thanks. I thought you were a Klitschko fan, so it's more Wlad than Vitali? There's so many of them (fans) it's kinda hard to keep up with (except for the one's that make that 'lasting' impression; you never did that , you were always respectful :) )

im a fan, but not a blind one. i wasnt making an excuse after Wlad collapsed against brewster, i was up throwing my bowl of popcorn and screaming at the "*****" to get up. I was drunk, i couldnt help it. But yeah, im not delusional(?) about the Klitshkos, just a fan. And just so you know, i keep donating points to you because you are one of the only people on here that doesnt seem biased against any fighters (minus Jones :D ) and i dont want anyone to steal my points anymore.

the bottom line is: you kick ass. :p do you know if its possible to make a picture smaller than it is? i have a picture in my profile link at myspace.com and it is too big to be my avatar, although someone told me you can "cut" scanned pictures down to make them fit......i see you must have done something similar.

Oh yeah, I did something similar but with alot of help from somebody that knew what they were doing. If I tried to tell you what I remember of that whole "experience" you wouldnt like me much any longer; I just know I'd have it all screwed up! Anyway, all you gotta do is 'put out the call' (so to speak) and I'm sure many will post directions for you to pick from. Sorry! You DONT WANT my help; trust me on that. :D
He wants too beat Tyson cause its been his dream since tenage.
mijoung 10-31-2004, 03:01 AM Washed up or not, Williams towers over Tyson, and Klitchko towers over Williams, can Tyson reach his chin and still have some mustard on his shots? I like Tyson, but I wish he would/could retire. This fight could be a cash cow, so who knows, it may happen.
Mr. Mandingo 06-30-2010, 12:45 PM i hope this fight gets made
infamous larryx 06-30-2010, 12:47 PM why are all these old threads being bumped??
valero 07-03-2010, 12:06 PM i hope this fight gets made
Seriously, it would be better than Valuev.
Mr. Mandingo 07-03-2010, 01:50 PM Man, if this happens, it would be as big as a pacquiao-mayweather fight
wolfgang 07-03-2010, 01:58 PM Even if tyson was in his prime, I still think vitali would win.

of course, a prime tyson would be easy work for either vitali or vlad
