View Full Version : how much yall paying for the gym?
whatevathehell 12-27-2006, 07:11 PM I had a membership this year but I didnt do anything with it.
the got it for $30 for the whole year. the only thing is the gym was real small and there was like only one person who kinda coached everyone.
alot of the more experienced guys had good tips to offer but I need something more instructive.
there is this other gym that have actual classes and whatnot. they charge $30 a month. Ill probaly do both and once I get comfortable just stick with working out by myself properly the $30/year deal.
is $30/month too much?
whatevathehell 12-27-2006, 07:20 PM oh and another ? cuz I dont wanna make another thread.
How long do you need to train or how many amateur fights do you need to have under your belt before yo can go pro.

here in vegas, it mostly goes per month
$25 for amateurs
$35 for pros
$50 for people who just wanna workout and not compete
50$ a month here - 75% of it goes just to keeping the gym open! The rest is used to buy new equipment, keep the refigerator stocked, etc. Real nice guys.. will let you pay late if need be!
mgkirkpatrick 12-28-2006, 07:41 AM the two places ive been to are per session payments
$7 at one and $2 at teh other.
as to the 'how long' question.. differs for each person. i think its a 'when you're ready you'll know thing'
fasman 12-28-2006, 11:15 AM £20 per month which is around $35
Phantasm 12-28-2006, 12:02 PM Here in Miami, I was paying $35/month for a one year membership, it was $45 for 6 months. They gym was well stocked and only reason I slacked off was because of time limitations. I'm probably going back since I just got engaged Christmas and need to drop the 30 or so pounds I put on since I left the gym. They also offer private trainers at an extra cost...these are current or former fighters or the gym owner who is a referee at local fights.
The Raging Bull 12-28-2006, 12:58 PM £3 a time, which I think is very reasonable.
BuddyChacon 12-28-2006, 01:09 PM Jesus those are cheap prices in my area the MMA and boxing gyms cost about $85 dollars a month. The cheap one is now closed.
-Antonio- 12-28-2006, 01:23 PM I pay around 15 a session. :puppy_dog
Evil_Meat 12-28-2006, 01:31 PM 50$ a month here - 75% of it goes just to keeping the gym open! The rest is used to buy new equipment, keep the refigerator stocked, etc. Real nice guys.. will let you pay late if need be!
thats my exact situation as well
Robb235 12-29-2006, 12:25 AM Free.
The gym and trainers are funded by the city of Chattanooga.

FIGHTING_FLIP 12-29-2006, 05:18 AM $160 for 6 months
Samuel F. 12-29-2006, 05:53 AM I go to a MMA gym. I pay $55 a month. But you can go to any class you want and as many as you want. But I just take boxing.... http://www.gladiatorsacademy.com/
They barely ever update their website. They actualy have two new classes, and two different boxing trainers that train on different days....
MOREBASS 12-29-2006, 12:01 PM The place I was thinking of joining is like $125 a month, and thats just for this group boxing class, and if you want coaching, its $200 a month. I don't know why its so high, but I'm guessing its because of the location, its right in downtown SF near the Embarcadero.

Pretty steep huh...?

$200 if you want to pay month to month, and $150 a month, if you pay 6 months in full...
Basically they want you to commit to 6 months, or a year at a time. Still expensive though..

$30 a year... u're lucky, where i live the boxing gym is only open from the middle of sept - the end of april. it's either $175 in full or $25-30 a month, and restricted hours - 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. only mon - thurs. for less money i realized i could buy my own punching bag and speedbag and train myself any time i wanted

True but what about sparring? $25-30 a month is not horrible, I've seen gyms charge more than twice that. Still the limited availability of your gym does suck.

i used to spar with some ex amatuers who had their own gym ( private ), now that i know i'm not going to be a pro boxer, i haven't sparred in a couple years but i do miss it though. i had a buddy who was a pretty good amateur, he has a better record than me, we were always planning to get in the ring but he's rehabbing a torn muscle under his foot
yrrej 12-30-2006, 08:46 PM $10 bucks a month at the city gym. Thanks for reminding me. My dues are due....

In every boxing club in the world most of the guys training there have either no talent or no motivation. It doesn't matter if it is a $30/year or $30/month or $30/hour. Does the guy running the club know boxing? If you have a little bit of talent and lots of motivation he will see it and he will pay more attention to you the others who are just wasting time. Cus D'Amato never charged much at his club in Catskill, but he gave kids the best training in the world.
