I am a huge Foreman fan but isn't it ironic that he returned as soon as Holmes retired? I mean a fight between foreman and holmes would have drawn alot of money if it happened between 1980-84.

Who had the most competition? Hmm I'd have to say Louis, but it's really hard to say. Holmes had Norton from Spinks. Louis had Baer to Walcott. I'd say it depends on who you favor more as a fighter. For me it's Louis.

Holmes fought 35 opponents, out of 75, that were at one time or another rated in the top 10. That's a percentage of 46.67%.

Louis fought opponents that had an average record of 38.1-10.2-2.6
Holmes fought opponents that had an average record of 19.85-5.1-0.67

So I would say that Louis fought the better competition.

Your numbers seem to speak above opinion, and thanks for clearing that question up for me because I'd been thinking about it since I made that post. I am glad my gutt feeling to follow Joe Louis was accurate.

Yes, I go by the facts. I have been in boxing since I was a kid and I have been doing research almost as long. I have won thousands of sport trivia contests on all sports. I have even done research with Herb Goldman and have talked about boxing history and trivia with Bert Sugar, who I was with last week and he sent me a book on the history of the New York Golden Gloves.

One boxing trivia site calls it "Boxing trivia Boxing quizzes, trivia, facts, home of the trivia king hhascup."

I don't always go by facts because typicaly along the lines there are screw up calls and stuff like that. I go by what I see, read, adn know. Larry's competion was stronger IMO, but Louis's was more experienced. So I won't make a decision yet.

Louis has the better resume definetely.

Head to head, I think Holmes would beat Louis in a fight, but resume wise, Louis takes it. But in 11 years Louis defended his title 25 times, when in 7.5 years Holmes defended his 20.
