View Full Version : Louis and Lamotta pic
Brockton Lip 12-23-2006, 12:03 PM Heres an interesting picture of Jake and Joe together. I had heard from different sources that Jake always wanted to fight Joe but was obviously never able to. I can't recall seeing this picture for some reason, so I thought I would post it.

Brockton Lip 12-23-2006, 04:42 PM A little, but its difficult for me to tell because of the quality.

Yaman 12-23-2006, 04:45 PM Well not only that, it looks like both men after a fight, or traning. Did they one time spar together or something haha. We are just gonna have to wait for the guys who know about Boxing of the old days.

I wouldn't know if the photo is legit or not, Stinger, although if it is real, it certainly looks like it was taken in either 1946 or '47 (LaMotta looks youngish in it, and Louis looks like he did in the year or two right after the war), and my best guess is that it was taken at Stillman's Gym in New York while Louis was putting the final touches on his training for one of his title defenses that would take place in that city...I didn't check myself, but some cross-referencing might show that LaMotta also fought in New York at around the exact same time as one of Louis' title defenses in those years.

What are you? A boxing encyclopedia?
Everytime I read one of your posts I either learn something new or I'm amazed at your insight. The same goes for that bloke K-Dogg. Keep it up.
DudeManGuy216 12-24-2006, 06:17 PM yeah that pic is legit. its in Jakes book raging bull. LaMotta always wanted to fight Louis but knew he couldn't carry a heavyweight build without being to slow to fight him
Lubutheimmortal 12-24-2006, 09:40 PM Interesting pic. Indeed two legends. As of it being real or not I dont know.Dude said it was in Jakes book, so I guess it is. Either way its a good pic.
Brockton Lip 12-24-2006, 10:09 PM Thanks for the info!

yeah your kinda right, plus whats that orange star in the bottom right hand corner for?
Kid Achilles 12-25-2006, 02:02 PM It's real. It was in LaMotta's book, actually a better quality version of it where LaMotta does not look such a lighter different shade (which is what causes the pic to look photoshopped to begin with). If I had a scanner, I'd show you.
