View Full Version : chuck liddell...
LHWchamp5 12-22-2006, 06:50 PM Curious what makes him such a great fighter?? why is his striking better than everybody elses??
IMO his striking could be better than everybody elses that he has fought, with that being said liddell is yet to fight an established striker..
Sure he ko'd tito (a wrestler with louzy stand-up defence and supposedly great boxing, i'm yet too see it)..
He also ko'd randy a couple of times( a champ in his tiime a terrific wrestler but also a fighter that was on verge of retirement, that chose to stand-up and trade with chuck while leading with his head.. Strage tactics for a dominant wrestler..)
Liddell took horn in 4 (the fight could have been stopped in the 2nd and 3rd but chuck chose to show how one dimensional he really his and dragged this fight out till the 4th.. Pretty lame fight with a summary of chcuk counter punching a guy that isn't known for his striking..)
Chucks' most recent title defence was against babalu (a great bjj practitioner whom again decided to "surprise" chuck with his stand-up abilities while charging into a left or a right, i think both..)..
As you can see chuck has fougth some good fighters unfortunatly the competition has been smaller, on verge of retirement and in tito's case he just has a head too damn big too miss..
I'll give chuck his respect when he goes out and earns it.. Till then he's just an under achiever to me..
This is not a flame thread or nuthugger thread, i just want yoru opinions.. this is how i view liddell.
the_fusionist 12-22-2006, 08:39 PM Exactly. I like Chuck Liddell. You cannot deny his potential but he sucks. His fights are possibly the most boring in the league. I want to see a better Chuck Liddell. I would rather Liddell lose giving it all he's got. In my mind he'd still remain a warrior. I think Americans want winners and not fighters. How else would Dana sell Xyience. It's why many are motivated to cheat by using steriods, stall, and etcetera.

Easy-E 12-25-2006, 04:05 AM I think Chucks fights are extremly exciting, and he ducks no one.
Problem is, theres not that many great fighters in the UFC, so its going to be tough for Chuck to prove his worth.

quoted for the motha ****inI truth!!!
he just needs to fight a better competition period.
flipside 12-25-2006, 09:48 AM cant ufc and pride fc co promote fights. so we will have undisputed champs in MMA too :D

LMFAo last night i think i was.. Man i was pissed fukin drunk.. just readin the therad and man gave me a good laugh.. still think liddell is under achiever and though he may call out wanderlei, he still signs contracts that limit him to the UFC.. If he's so great he should have the power to sign UFC contracts as well fight where he wants whne he wants with a smamll percentage of profit going to the ufc..

as long as dana white is still as greedy as a leech .we wont see them fight against other organizations.

He would if he wasn't the champ. BJ Penn lost the WW belt for signing with K-1 heros after winning. The UFC doesn't want their champs going to other org. to fight which doesn't sound to unreasonable. It is in all UFC championship contracts. If Chuck were to lose to Tito, I bet he could go and fight in Pride or wherever. It;s not like you see Pride champs come over and fight elsewhere. Except Fedor is supposed to fight in Russia on the Bodog card cause Pride said he could only fight in Russia if he fights somewhere else.

You make it sound like contracts such as what you're talking about, exsit on some large and frequent basis (outside Fedor). I ask you this, Wanderlei doesn't do this, so why do you feel so inclined to make it sound like Chuck must do it? Yeah, I'd love to see him fight Wanderlei, Shougun, Lil Nog, and Arona among others just as bad if not worse then you. This doesn't change the fact that Chuck's contract is with the UFC, he'll fight anybody the UFC can sign or make a deal with.
You just out and out hate Liddell, and the UFC.

Umm wanderlei was too fight in the UFC however as we all know some things didnt work out and nobody knows the specifics as to why....
alot of pride fighters fight elsewhere including overeeem with 2h2h as mentioned fedor is on the bodog fight card with his bro aleks, alot of pride fighers(japanese) are still competing in pancrase and shoot even guys like arona and aurelio were competing in abu-dhabi all were signed with pride well doing so..
So ireally dont' see wehre you guys are commin from sayin pride does the same thing..
I wouldn't doubt if ufc MADE fighters take dives for a bonus cash incentive..
Pride's - contracts or more along the lines of "you fight when we tell you, whatever you do on the side is your business and yor personal life"
Ufc - is kinda like "you sign, they own you and ther aint nuttin you can do after your name hits the dotted line"..
After all what was the big deal of penn fighting for K1 while being UFC champ?? if he loses it's a good reason to bring another good fighter to the UFC producing better champs and better competions..
If dana was doing good for the sport, he would not have stripped BJ.. Dna was only doing what was good for his ego..
Harms 12-26-2006, 07:52 PM It tarnishes the championship mystique. No org wants to see their champ lose and have someone outside their organization claim they are the true champ. The champs of the big 2 orgs don't let their champs fight outside of the org. It is bad for business.

Fedor is fighting elsewhere and tim sylvia is just too ****ty to do so... besides chuck fought in Pride Gp..
Umm last time i checked giving the fans what they want to see is usually benneficial for businesss.
Funny when chuck fights in pride he's ranked #3 when he solely fights in UFC he's ranked #1.. mma weekly pretty biased opinions if you ask me..
Pinoy_Texan 12-27-2006, 04:00 PM Here's the thing about Chucky. He's not a great striker, but you can't get him out of his game. He does the same thing every fight. He circles his opponent and wait for the guy to come to him(probably reason for people to call his fight boring). Then BAM!!! Overhand right. Now its not always overhand right but he does lower the boom when they start charging(with the exception for Ortiz-for some reason he wanted to hurt him bad).

thank you if i could i would shake your hand.. finally an argument that amkes sense.. I completely agree he's a counter fighter rather than a go get em kinda guy.. He only seems to be dangerous whne he's angry(mezger, tito) both fights he got mad and stormed in for the KO immediatly after losing his temper.
He has the ability to be good, just not the thrive..

Chuck lost his belt to Randy then went to fight in Pride. It's bad for business if Pride is trying to get a foothold in the US and you "give the fans what they want to see". People who follow UFC and no nothing about Pride (look at the people who post here who have no clue who Shogun or Fedor is) think, hey this Pride thing is better, I think I will start ordering their PPV instead of UFC. If you have a stranglehold on the US market which UFC does, why in god's green earth would you have a joint PPV or champs from a foreign org fight your champs. Yeah, it is bad for business.

I think it's worst for business announcing somethign that was never to happen.. Chuck/wandy in the ufc... now that is bad for business.. Good business would have been making that fight happen..
but thas jsut me and the other 3million mma fans opinion.. must be meaningless.
Harms 12-28-2006, 01:44 PM Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see it happen. The whole Silva/Liddell announcement was extremely regrettable.
