I realize that the overall quality of music isn’t what it was 15 or even 10 years ago, I’m not here to complain or debate about that. But has the game taken such a dip over the years that our standards have been lowered to the point that mediocrity is excused, accepted and even celebrated? Apparently. Here is what I’m talking about. Whenever you criticize one of today’s “hot” artists about their abilities you’re met with the same excuse every time. Criticize Game for his redundant droning on about lowriders, point out Young Jeezy is a terrible rapper blessed with great beats, or say that Yung Joc is, well, just flat out wack. The argument will go something like this; “**** that, you’re just a hater. Not everyone is gonna spit lyrics like Nas or Lupe. He just do what he do, he ain’t gonna spit some political or conscious raps. He lived his life and just tells us how it is, its his culture, how you gonna criticize for that. **** you hater.”" res 12-20-2006, 03:35 AM Yes it's getting to the point that i hate the word "hater". its an all purpose excuse for letting people with no, or very little talent slide. Actually the result of this will be a mindless population of kids. The other thing thats funny is that we've returned to the era of the D.J. but the rapper gets all the money and fame. If you love beats fine, but give credit to the one who creates the beats not to the untalented rapper riding the beats. If you want to call some one a "good rapper" make sure that it is actually because they are a GOOD RAPPER. ROSEWOOD 12-20-2006, 11:51 AM Dope Beats=Dope MC? TRUE... Today, the beat is everything...if the beat is wack then most listeners will not get past the first bar..I hate it but it is true..artist are making the music that people want to hear...club party or whatever that may be..I personally love a throwed beat but LOVE strong lyrics...lyrics with meaning... RAESAAD 12-20-2006, 11:58 AM I have to admit I am usually very critical of Lyrics but man Jeezy just does it for me.......He is the only rapper I can think of that can spit a line and it won't even ****ing rhyme but I still feel that ****.......No always but it has happened.I like what he says and what he talks about....he is real.......whether it always flows nice or rhymes is questionable but it is still tight ****.I mean for real......I have been listening more to the New jeezy than to Nas.........not much more but more. The beats are sick the lyrical content is great but the actual flow and all that is of course lacking but thats just Jeezy.......... DiegoFuego 12-20-2006, 12:15 PM If you don't have good beats, your songs don't sound good, so yes the beat is everything. Especially when ANYONE can rap if they sit down with a pen long enough. Do you seriously think rapping is something difficult to do? RAESAAD 12-20-2006, 12:16 PM If you don't have good beats, your songs don't sound good, so yes the beat is everything. Now a days a solid beat combined with a charismatic rapper with a good flow seems to be the recipee for success. There are still people like Weezy, Luda, and TI that have those qualities and are also solid lyrically. Tha Greatest 12-20-2006, 05:27 PM I don't understand the praise for rappers. Kweli is one of the best and Common is sick!!! Regarding the topic!! you have to agree to some extent especially nowdays even if the lyrics are total bollocks but it has a catchy tune or beat then most people will lyk it!! But to me i have to hear good lyrics and not jus the beat!! MetalVomit 12-21-2006, 03:36 PM I don't understand the praise for rappers.
