I think his trainer is dumb for encouraging him to fight with that style imo. I wish I could fight like James Toney, but it aint gonna happen. I think theres only a select few that can get away with that in boxing.

His trainer is either not very good, or just doesn't care about training McAlister and doesn't consider him a serious fighter.

my trainer has been training peolpe for over a decade and had some very good fighters, yet he still says hes never had a fighter good enough to teach the phillyshell.

The Philly Shell looks like it would work great against someone who's never seen it before. I can see how frustrating it could be. But if you ran into someone who's worked it out, you'd be scrod. That RJJ/ Glen Johnson fight was brutal; just from watching it briefly you could tell that Johnson had been working against a Philly Shell in practice.

Did a similar thing happen with the Dempsey Roll and the Peekaboo defense? Just curious.

well you could watch tyson-douglas, tyson-lennox, demspey-tunney...but i tend to think it all three of those fights they werent using the peekaboo to its full effect.

anyways, philly shell is easy enough to pick apart, especially if they arent meant to be using it. double up the jab, and when they lean out of the way, drill em with the right hand.
