View Full Version : Trouble breathing through one of the nostrils
BrooklynBomber 12-17-2006, 09:12 PM Something I noticed some time ago but was too lazy to care about.
I have a trouble breathing through my left nostril for the last year, I think the problem occured after I got my nose broken(I boxed for about 5 years).
Something tells me that I wll have to seek help of a surgeon, since the problem does not get any better.
Anybody got anything to tell me on this subject or had a similar problem?

Of what, a nostril?
As I said I would love to post a pic, but I am poor and have no camera.

Bucktown Beast 12-17-2006, 11:59 PM All humans naturally breathe through one nostril easier. At any given moment you can cover your right nostril and have trouble breathing through your left, then a week later u cover your left and have trouble breathing through your right. It constantly alternates, I learned that from my nose/eye doctor when I had surgery for a deviated septum at 16. Sometimes I find that for long periods of time my right nostril is stuffed while my left intakes most of the air.

Oh, ok, thank you.
yrrej 12-18-2006, 11:17 PM One can't ever get enough air with a mouthpiece anyway. Just breathe through your mouth when you are exchanging. The arterial flow in the nostrils shifts from one side to the other throughout the day, so there is always one side or another that isn't working so well. You might check to make sure you don't have a divided septum, which could be corrected surgically.....
LoftyDog 12-18-2006, 11:42 PM I saw a ear nose and throat specialist and he pointed out that one of my nostrils is more clogged than the other. Can't remember exactly what he said after that, but he never did anything about it so I don't think its that big of a deal.
yrrej 12-19-2006, 10:21 PM Meant to say, "just don't breath through your mouth when you are exchanging"...you will get your jaw broken. Probably, if your doctor had good sense and knew you were boxing, he would have given you better information about your breathing problem, and this is a problem.....
