View Full Version : A question.....

This is for all the people out there who bash TUF.

Myself, I saw my first mma match when I was 9, back in 94', this was UFC 1 that I got my dad to rent because he figured it was just boxing with wrestling thrown in and was interested to see how different styles would match up against each other. My father was appalled (he was a 2 time Golden Glove champ, so a boxing purist to say the least) by it and refused to let me watch it. I still found a way to watch it though, and loved every minute of it.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand.

I know TUF has brought some of the world's dumbest bastards out of the wood work. While this may be the case, there is a legit falling of TUF era mma fans who have actually spent time learning about mma, and it's roots. Yet you go to sites such as here, sherdog, among others, and 99% of the **** you hear is, "shut the **** up, you're nothing but a TUF noob," "TUF noob pwned" etc etc....

My question is simple, for those who say TUF is bad for the sport, how so?

Is it because certain people just watch that show, don't follow anything else that goes on outside of that show, or is their lack of knowledge, or is it some other reason?

It has made it mainstream now, so how could it be bad for the sport as a whole in any way?

TUF is one of the main reasons the UFC is gaining even more fans IMO.....

It is the reason.

MMA on basic cable is the reason why it's become the sport of this generation.

Like I stated in my original post, it may bring out a ton of dumb sons of *****es, but, some of them will turn into well versed viewers and even fighters.

Exposure brought about by TUF and ****e as a whole, has sped up mma's growth 10 fold.

I find the show pretty boring, but if it works...wtf? Those pucks who undermine others are just inflating their image.

has both negatives and positives however a downside maybe the build up of certain fighters becasue of "personality" not skill...
Franklin/Quarry is not good for the sport, we all know that quarry got the fight only because he was a TUFFER....

It's good for the sport because it does bring it up n comming mma talent.. However the majority are nowhere near "top fighter" status as dana white seems to think..

quarry got the fight cause he's a figgin badass, but anyway the tv show isn't bad for the sport any more than it is good for the sport it depends on how influenced the partisipants are with the martial arts way of life, which seems to be gradually dissappating with the evolution of mma (at least here in america) but there are still some very standup guys that are very good influences for the martial arts community. Quarry being one of them, couture another that were showcasing their quallity of character on the tuf show as well as their skill and/or experience.

it'd be cool if the tuf show did a season in brazil and earned some or the top team and chute box team possible ufc contracts, that would deffinately bring a lot of exposure to mma and also bring some very stiff competion to the ufc through the show. I'm sure it would enlighten a lot of people, anyway just a thought.

Emile Griffith (born February 3, 1938) is a former boxer from the U.S. Virgin Islands who won world championships in both the Welterweight and Middleweight divisions. He was the first boxer from the U.S. Virgin Islands ever to become a world champion. While Griffith is recognized in some boxing books as being a three division world champion, his claim to the Junior Middleweight title was not generally recognised.

Its not bad for the sport at all, I think its better that we can get to know the fighters a little more better. Where they are from, and their personality and just who they are. The TUF series tv show has alot of ratings every week doesnt it?? It has brought the audience to watch the finale and more people to watch the UFC all together. Dana White is a smart guy to make a UFC show, hope the show will stay on for a long time.
