Fortuna Pickles Cruz in Two, Magomed Batters Byarm

By Rick Reeno

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas - Super featherweight Javier Fortuna (20-0, 15KOs) went right through Mexican veteran Cristobal Cruz (39-14-2, 23KOs) in two rounds. Fortuna put Cruz down with a series of punches in the first minute of action. Fortuna's fast hands and hard punches were overwhelming Cruz, who was too slow and reaching with his shots. In the second round, a huge shot drilled Cruz right on the button and he fell face first on the mat. He actually beat the count, and still looked dazed, which prompted refeee Robert Byrd to wave it off.

Featherweight Rocco Santomauro (9-0, 0KOs) won a four round unanimous decision over Dewayne Wisdom (2-4, 1KO). Santomauero has yet to stop any of his opponents. The scores were 39-37, 40-36, 39-37.

Rising heavyweight Magomed Abdusalamov (15-0, 15KOs) stopped Maurice Byarm (13-2-1, 9KOs) in two rounds.. Near the end of the first round, Magomed unleashed a vicious display of two hand punching when he trapped Byarm in the corner. He nearly stopped him and Byarm barely made it back to his corner. At the start of the second, Byarm came out on unsteady legs and went down very fast. He made it up but continued to get battered until referee Tony Weeks jumped in.

Super middleweight prospect Ronald Gavril (3-0, 2KOs) stopped overmatched Kenneth T. Schmitz (2-3, 1KOs) in the first round of action.

I thought Javier Fortuna would be a great opponent for Gary Russell Jr as well but had no idea that Russell Jr already passed on facing him. Would be a hell of a matchup as Fortuna seems to have enough…

Never heard of Magomed but he made a heck of a impression. The ref made the right call stopping the Fortuna fight. Man was that a lot of blood coming out of Cruz's nose.

Fortuna is still raw, but brilliant talent. His punching power and aggressiveness give anybody trouble. I don't want them to rush him. He's got plenty of things to learn. I bet he's gonna be much better fighter than what he…

A lot of upside to this Fortuna kid. He's my age and has already been in there with some pretty decent guys and proved himself. Looking forward to his next fight!

[QUOTE=liraj;12309416]Fortuna is the truth he has a great future ahead of him in the featherweight division, if this was 10 years ago his next fight would be against Russel jr to see who's ready for a title shot. Hopefully that…
