Floyd Mayweather-Robert Guerrero Lands on BoxNation

Boxing superstar Floyd “Money” Mayweather returns to the Channel of Champions BoxNation (Sky Ch. 437/Virgin Ch. 546) which has secured the LIVE U.K. rights to his WBC Welterweight World Championship clash against Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nev. on Saturday 4th May.

Eight-Time and Five Division World Champion Floyd Mayweather, recognized as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world today, will have first fight of the year in a highly-anticipated clash against the man called the “The Ghost” who himself is a six-time world champion in four weight divisions.

For the second time in a row, Mayweather’s fight will be featured on BoxNation, the U.K.’s number one fight subscription channel.  The first televised was Mayweather’s amazing win over Miguel Cotto to claim the WBA Super Welterweight World Champiohip last May.

Mayweather, unbeaten in 43 fights in a stunning near 17-year career, has cemented his position as the greatest fighter of his generation with wins over former World Champions Genaro Hernandez, Diego Corrales, Jose Luis Castillo, Arturo Gatti, Zab Judah, Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Juan Manuel Marquez, Shane Mosley, Victor Ortiz and Cotto.

Guerrero had a sensational win in his last fight in November against former Two-Time World Champion Andre Berto to earn his shot at Mayweather - who he has targeted for the last two years.  Now, he gets his chance to score a huge upset by defeating one of the all-time greats in May.

Another blockbuster fight on the biggest show of the year will feature an explosive showdown between WBC Featherweight World Champion Daniel Ponce De Leon and top ten pound-for-pound best and Two-Division World Champion Abner Mares.

“I’m happy to know that BoxNation will be showing my fight in the U.K., a place where some of the best boxing fans live and have supported me throughout my career,” said Mayweather.  “My May 4th fight against Robert Guerrero will be a thrilling one as I know Guerrero has been campaigning to fight me for quite a while now.  His name is mentioned among the other great champions in boxing today because he has proven himself in the ring.  He will now have to prove himself against me, which is a whole other story.”

“We appreciate the support of BoxNation in airing Floyd’s fight against Robert Guerrero in the U.K.,” said Leonard Ellerbe, CEO, Mayweather Promotions.  “Floyd is a superstar in boxing and the interest in him from fans worldwide, including the great fans in the U.K., reflects his success.  Robert Guerrero deserves this opportunity and I commend him for stepping up and feeling so confident against someone as talented as Floyd.  Boxing and sports fans are in for the thrill of a lifetime on May 4th with a great night of boxing talent and competition on display.  There is so much to look forward to that evening.”

“We are extremely proud to work with BoxNation on this fantastic boxing event and to bring fight fans in the United Kingdom these match-ups with Mayweather vs. Guerrero and Ponce de Leon vs. Mares that feature amazing champions who perform at the highest level every time they step in the ring” said Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions.  “The return of Floyd Mayweather is always exciting and Robert Guerrero, who has aggressively campaigned for this bout for over two years, will be in the fight of his life now that his dream has come true.  Ponce de Leon vs. Mares is a highly competitive bout featuring two worthy champions that could stand on its own as a main event.  This will be a great night of boxing for all of the fans in the U.K. who love and appreciate the sport of boxing.”

BoxNation General Manager Jim McMunn said: “This will be one of the biggest and most anticipated fights of the year, and it’s on BoxNation, which we are extremely excited about.  There’s already been a lot of hype around this fight, so it’s great for us to be able to bring it to the British boxing fans live.  This fight will produce boxing action not be missed.”
