Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer tells BoxingScene.com that WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26KOs) will reveal his plans for September 14th in the next few weeks.
Schaefer is currently working behind the scenes to make a fight between Mayweather and WBC 154-pound champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-0-1, 30KOs). Schaefer is keeping the status of those discussions under wraps and won't reveal the other names in the running to face Mayweather. But he does expect an announcement in the new few weeks because everyone will have to get the ball rolling on the marketing and promotion of the September show.
"Floyd is his own boss. Currently he is thinking about what he wants to do and when he knows what he wants to do I'm sure that he'll announce that. He realizes as well that there is a certain time limit [on when he needs to make an announcement]. He made it clear at the post-fight press conference and subsequent [interviews] that he wants to fight, and he will fight, on September 14th. He realizes that there are certain deadlines to be met to make this a typical Mayweather mega-event with activations and so on. I would assume that in a couple of weeks Floyd Mayweather will unveil who he wants to fight," Schaefer told BoxingScene.com.
