BoxingScene.com can confirm that Manchester’s Terry Flanagan will fight for the WBO lightweight title against Mexico’s Jose Zepeda, date and venue TBA. The two fighters are in the organisation’s Top Ten, sitting at two and five respectively, and will contest the vacant title, which remained on the shelf after Mexico's Raymundo Beltran failed to make the 135 lb. limit for his title tilt against Japan's Takahiro Ao (a second-round TKO win on Friday night).
Flanagan is 27-0 (10) as a pro, he beat Stephen Ormond (DQ 10 in a WBO European title challenge) last time out to cement his WBO rating. The 25-year-old rose to promince when winning Prizefighter: The Lightweights in 2012, beating Patrick Walsh, Derry Mathews and Gary Sykes to secure the tournament win. “Turbo” will hope to use his high-octave southpaw style to bring home the world title.
Zepeda is also undefeated; the 25-year-old posted four wins last year to underline his title credentials and has already fought twice in 2015. The Mexican contender holds an impressive 23-0 (20) record and will be full of beans once the first bell sounds on first world title fight.
