Fernando Montiel Will Return in Three To Four Months

By Jhonny Gonzalez

Manuel Montiel, the father and trainer of former world champion Fernando Montiel, expects his son to fight again in three to four months. Last Saturday at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Montiel suffered a vicious two round knockout loss at the hands of Nonito Donaire. Montiel wants to fight as soon as possible but his father is going to make him rest for the next couple of months.

"Fernando is good. He was taken to hospital because in Las Vegas, by regulation, you must be examined if you lose by knockout. But once they did the appropriate tests at the hospital and they found that everything was okay, we went back to the hotel," Manuel Montiel said. "Although he wants to fight as soon as possible, Fernando will have to rest for three or four months before returning to the ring."

He should fight Eric Morel. That was a fight that I wanted to see years ago.

I heard he had a fractured jaw. Whats the point of him rushing back? Let him fully heal first.
