If WBO/WBC bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel is successful later tonight when he defends his belts against Nonito Donaire at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, he plans to move up in weight to challenge the winner of Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. vs. Jorge Arce. The unbeaten Puerto Rican, Vazquez, will defend his WBO super bantamweight title against Arce on the Manny Pacquiao-Shane Mosley undercard on May 7.

While he waits for that shot, there is also IBF super flyweight champion Cristian Mijares, who issued a challenge in the Mexican press and claims Montiel is running from the fight.

"I definitely want the winner of that fight, or the WBC champion in Japan [Toshiaki Nishioka]. I don't have a problem going to Japan. If Mijares wants it, we can do it. Money talks. All I need is four rounds. He's looking for a payday. They can make it a four round fight because that's all I will need to knock him out," Montiel said.
