Earlier BoxingScene’s Rick Reeno reported both Gabriel Rosado and Fernando Guerrero are being considered as opponents for WBA Middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin for an HBO fight on January 19th from Madison Square Garden in New York.

BoxingScene spoke to Fernando Guerrero who is coming off a 6th round TKO win over JC Candelo and was asked if would be interested in taking on Golovkin should the opportunity be presented to him. Guerrero surprisingly doesn’t know much about Golovkin and first heard about the possibility of fighting him when I spoke to him.

Despite not being familiar with Golovkin, Guerrero is more than willing to take on the challenge and fight for a world title.

“Man, I think I’m ready and I’m overjoyed right now that I heard that. I try to stay away from the media because just like I told my coach, there are too many guys right now that they come and go. There’s Sergio Martinez, there’s Peter Quillin and there’s other guys. So what I do is I don’t watch any of them. What I try to do is just relax and watch the guy that’s in front of me. So if [Golovkin] is the guy in front of me and once they put it on paper then I’ll start watching him. But yes, I would love to fight for a title and fight anybody. It doesn’t matter [to me]” said Guerrero.

Guerrero recently changed trainers and headed up to The Bay to train with Virgil Hunter who’s stable has swelled with talent as of late. Guys like Amir Khan and Alfredo Angulo have also recently tabbed Hunter for his services and have all been training up North. Guerrero feels despite his loss to Grady Brewer, he’s become a better fighter since then and wants to prove it by taking a big fight.

“I want to be up there. I want to fight those fights that I have to fight. If I have to fight [Golovkin], it doesn’t matter. I think I’m good enough. I don’t care what [anybody says], I’m not going to doubt myself. When I came out, I came out strong and everyone was talking about me and I’m going to show everybody that one fight doesn’t [define] your whole career. When I lost it made me grow up into a man. So now it’s either quit or keep on going and I’m going to keep on going” Guerrero told BoxingScene.

Guerrero hopes to get the call to fight for the world title and even if he doesn’t get the Golovkin fight, he feels he’s ready to fight the best in his division.
