Felix Verdejo Faces Sergio Villanueva on Oct. 4th

By Francisco Salazar

Unbeaten lightweight Felix Verdejo will fight Sergio Villanueva in an eight round bout on October 4, it was announced in a press release.

Boxingscene.com was the first to report Verdejo would fight on October 4.

The bout will headline a Top Rank/ All Star Boxing card that will take place at the Bahia Shrine Auditorium and Events Center in Orlando, Florida.

UniMas will broadcast the "Solo Boxeo Tecate" telecast live on the East Coast and on tape-delay on the West Coast.

Verdejo (14-0, 10 KOs) is coming off an eight round unanimous decision over Oscar Bravo at the Coliseo Hector Sola Bezares in Caguas, Puerto Rico on August 16.

It was Verdejo's first scheduled eight round bout and while he dominated the action, the Bravo fight fulfilled the purpose of getting Verdejo needed rounds.

He faces Villanueva (26-4-2, 13 KOs), of Tepic, Mexico, who has a faced a handful of prospects and contenders in his last couple of fights.

In his last bout on May 10, Villanueva lost a close 10 round unanimous decision to Rey Bautista. In June of last year, Villanueva was stopped in the seventh round by unbeaten Jose Pedraza.

Regardless of Villanueva's recent results, Verdejo is not underestimating his opponent.

"I don't know a lot about my opponent," said Verdejo, who will be fighting for the third time in Orlando on October 4. "We do know the Mexican fighters are always prepared and give everything in the ring. I'm also going to be well-prepared. Like my trainer has said, I will pay the price in the gym where the fights are really won."

Also on the card, Gamaliel Rodriguez (24-2-3, 16 KOs) will fight Charlie Serrano (16-4-1, 5 KOs).

Tickets could be purchased at the Bahia Shrine Auditorium and Events Center box office or by calling (407) 660-8811.
