According to a report in the always well informed Bild paper, WBA super middleweight champion Felix Sturm has failed his post-fight drug test to the twelve round decision win over Fedor Chudinov two months ago in Germany.

The paper notes that Sturm tested positive for stanozolol.

A medical journal notes - "stanozolol is commonly used by athletes and bodybuilders alike to lose fat while retaining lean body mass. It is usually used in a "cutting or leaning out" cycle, to help preserve lean body mass while metabolizing adipose, although it has not been proven conclusively that it has any special fat-burning properties.

Sturm spoke to the paper and denied any uses of illegal drugs. He plans to get a lawyer to fight the claims. In most scenarios the governing board in Germany very rarely reverses these types of outcomes for the better. Three years ago, Sam Soliman's first fight with Sturm was made a no-contest after Soliman tested positive for an illegal stimulant. Soliman fought hard against the claims, but the outcome was never changed.

"I swear that I have not knowingly taken anything like this by any means. I have been safely tested a hundred times, with blood and urine. There has never been any issues. I have an absolutely clear conscience. I'm going to get a lawyer," Sturm said.

Because of the positive test, Sturm now stands to lose his world title - which will be returned to Chudinov, who also suffered his first career defeat with the loss. The loss would become a no-contest if the test result stands.

After losing to Chudinov last year,  a mandatory rematch was ordered for unknown reasons - which Sturm won with a majority decision based on on scores of 114-114, 115-113, 115-113.
