Dominican boxer Argenis Mendez, 24-years-old is ready to capture the world junior lightweight of the International Boxing Federation (IBF). On June 11 Mendez (18-1, 9KOs) travels to Johannesburg, South Africa to challenge the champion Mzonke Fana (30-4, 12 KOs).
"I going to come home as the champion. I'm putting my trust in God and my team, to return with the championship of the world for the people who believe in me. I came to [South Africa before] and won, but now it's a big fight and I hope to repeat the victory that I had in January," said Méndez.
Mendez went to South Africa in January and dominated Cassius Baloyi for a decision win. Baloyi is the only common opponent between Fana and Mendez, both of which have beaten the boxer on points, but the young Dominican is the only fighter to drop Baloyi in his entire career of over 40 professional fights.
