IRWIN, Pa. -- A retired boxer told Channel 4 Action News that he wants to be paid by Hollywood for his name being used in a major movie.

Joey Ferrell told Team 4's Paul Van Osdol that he never received any compensation for his name being used in "The Fighter," starring Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale as brothers Micky Ward and Dicky Eklund.

"Nobody ever contacted me to use my name," Ferrell said. "I think that was very unfair."

Ferrell, of Irwin, Westmoreland County, fought the real Micky Ward in 1988.

The fight ended in the first round with a victory for Ward.

"It was one of my most … the worst fight in my life," Ferrell said.

In the movie, Wahlberg's Ward is preparing to fight middleweight Mike Mungin -- someone Ferrell knocked out in a real fight.

"Without me, it looked like it wouldn't be no movie because he was scared to fight the guy that I beat," said Ferrell.

"The Fighter" went on to gross more than $100 million worldwide.

Ferrell, who is currently collecting workers' compensation, said he should be entitled to some of those receipts.

"I paid my dues and he's making money off my name and the producers all made money and I'm sitting here unemployed," said Ferrell.

Ferrell said the plot of the movie may have been a lot different had he not been forced to lose six pounds before fighting Ward.

"Under the right circumstances, I would have whipped Micky Ward around the ring.," Ferrell said.

Paramount Pictures, which distributed the movie, had no comment.

An official at a Hollywood production company told Van Osdol that public figures are not typically compensated if they are mentioned in movies.

Being professional in Hollywood, expecting millions, you'd expect that to be covered. Just contact the guy, give him 50k or whatever. It's not difficult or a dent in your wallet. By not doing so, as much as he's exaggerating, I hope he gets a mill just to teach them a lesson for being so amate...

I'm not a lawyer so I dont know the legalities of using someones likeness in a movie, but I do think he should have atleast been contacted prior to the movie being made. Does the guy deserve a million dollars? No. The guy wasnt slandered in the movie nor was his likeness misrepresented. Not su...

What's he going to do? Is he going go to Ward's house with a protest sign demanding compensation ?
