Evander Holyfield-Gary Cornish Showdown in Play?

By Edward Chaykovsky

According to The Scotsman, former four-time heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield (44-10-2, 29KOs), 51-years-old, is interested in a comeback fight against Scottish prospect Gary Cornish (17-0, 9KOs).

Holyfield has been inactive since a May 2011 knockout win over Brian Nielsen in Denmark. Cornish, 26-years-old, turned pro in April of 2011.

Promoter Frank Warren is going to approach the British Boxing Board of Control about granting Holfield a license to fight in Britian this summer.

A spokesperson for Warren told the paper: “An enquiry has been made to Holyfield’s camp and they are interested. An application will also shortly be lodged with the British Boxing Board of Control. We think Cornish is a great prospect and someone worth getting behind. A fight of this magnitude would propel him into the limelight.”

Evander fighting again! Damn Holy, just sell the house with 35+ rooms for one with 15.

Sad to see Frank Warren fighting to get a license for a brain damaged legend in his 50s, especially as he's only doing it in the hopes that he's shot enough to lose to a prospect who usually only fights…

Then after that he could fight Toney, Tarver, RJJ etc etc

Like a few others, seems like the older some guys get , and the broker they are, the more desperate they get....Sad to see, mayb this commission won't sanction this, but w/Holy's name, it's an attraction...

It's sad to see, man. Holyfield really doesn't know anything but boxing, so he's just going to cling on as long as he can no matter how bad he's embarrassing himself and no matter how much damage he's doing to…
