As part of the highly anticipated 'Super Fly' card that takes place on Saturday night at the StubHub Center in Carson, California, Juan Francisco Estrada takes on Carlos Cuadras in what is an all-Mexican grudge match between two former beltholders.
Estrada, the former WBA and WBO flyweight champion, is facing a the former WBC 115-pound titlist, who last year battled Roman Gonzalez over twelve rounds and losing a hard-fought decision. Cuadras then struggled to beat David Carmona this past March in a rather listless outing
"I hope I see the version that fought Gonzalez," said Estrada, through publicist Ricardo Jimenez. "I thought he looked really good against 'Chocolatito', he didn't look so good against Carmona. I want him at his best."
For Estrada, it's his first chance to fight in front of an HBO audience.
"It's a great opportunity, I know that and I have to take advantage of it," said Estrada, who comes in with a record of 35-2 (25 KO's). The WBC has mandated that the winner of this fight face the winner of Saturday night's main event between their super flyweight champion, Srisaket Sor Rungvisai and Gonzalez.
There's no love lost between Estrada and Cuadras and that tension should spill over into the ring this weekend.
"I really don't think it will be a twelve round fight," stated Estrada. "I think I can knock him out. I'm going to pressure him and he's going to fold."
