Erkan Teper: record, next fight and profile →
The EBU have shot down promoter Eddie Hearn's championship plan for Olympic gold medal winner Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15KOs). As previously reported, Hearn discussed his interest in matching Joshua against the winner of Saturday's fight in Helsinki between Robert Helenius and Franz Rill, who battle for the vacant EBU heavyweight title.
EBU heavyweight Erkan Teper is injured and unable to go through with the defence against Robert Helenius December 19 in Helsinki. To save the promotion with over 9000 tickets sold and PPV in both Finland and Germany the parties involved have with the approval from the EBU reached a solution that reads as follows: Teper relinquish the title and allow stablemate Franz Rill, who was lined up to fight Salvatore Erittu for the vacant EU title on the same show, to fight Helenius for the now vacant EBU title.
When Robert Helenius controversially outscored Dereck Chisora late 2011 at the Hartwall Arena in Helsinki, there was a crowd of 12,734 spectators – an indoor record for professional boxing in Finland.
German heavyweight prospect Franz Rill (11-0) has stepped in as as a substitute for Hungarian Zsolt Bogdan, who is injured, as co-challenger for the vacant EU championship. In the other corner is already Italian champion Salvatore Erittu (27-2). The Rill vs. Erittu clash will go ahead on December 19th in Helsinki in a supporting bout to Erkan Teper´s defense of the EBU heavyweight title against Robert Helenius.
This fight was officially announced in Finland earlier today and is headline news in the sports pages: EBU heavyweight champion Erkan Teper (15-0) will defend the title on December 19 at the Hartwall Arena in Helsinki (Finland) against the Nordic Nightmare, Robert Helenius (21-0). The fight is promoted by Loud ´n` Live Promotions. At stake is also Teper´s IBF I/C title.
Dereck Chisora (21-5) has been appointed mandatory challenger for EBU heavyweight champ Erkan Teper (15-0). The parties now have a period for private negotiations but if no deal can be reached the EBU will call for purse bids.
Olympic bronze medal winner David Price is unsure where his career will go, after suffered a stunning knockout defeat against German heavyweight Erkan Teper in Ludwigsburg on Friday night. The Liverpool heavyweight was hoping to get his career back on track in only his second bout in 13 months, but his bid for the vacant European title was ended in violent fashion inside two rounds.
LONDON - Liverpool heavyweight David Price will face his toughest test since his shock defeats to Tony Thompson two years ago when he challenges for the European title. The former British and Commonwealth champion takes on undefeated Erkan Teper, live and exclusive on BoxNation this Friday from 8pm, in a fight that can see him catapulted back among the top names at heavyweight. His losses to American Thompson in 2013 were a major setback for Price, who was being tipped as one of the potential heirs to the Klitschko brothers’ throne, but he insists he is over those defeats as he now looks to step back into the limelight.
As previously reported, David Price suffered a stunning knockout defeat against German heavyweight Erkan Teper in Ludwigsburg. The Liverpool heavyweight was hoping to get his career back on track in only his second bout in 13 months, but his bid for the vacant European title was ended in violent fashion inside two rounds. Teper was already having plenty of joy against Price when he connected with a massive left hook and sent the 32-year-old to the canvas.
Tonight, BoxNation exclusively screens David Price’s attempt to become European heavyweight champion against German Erkan Tepor in Baden-Württemberg. I have to say, I think this is the big Liverpudlian’s last chance to get back into the big time, and Tepor is no slouch, especially on home turf. At 28 he is three years younger than Price, and also carries a big dig. His two previous British opponents, Martin Rogan and Michael Sprott, were each summarily despatched in a round. Price has a great jab as well as his formidable punching power, but that chin is so vulnerable.
