WBA 'regular' junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (20-2-2, 12KOs) is potentially going to return to action on a May date, in his backyard of Miami, Florida. Lara lost a close twelve round split decision to Saul "Canelo" Alvarez in July and then came back in December to dominate former champion Ishe Smith over twelve rounds in San Antonio, Texas.

"We want [the details of his return] to be a surprise, but I can say that we are doing everything possible to have Lara step into the ring in his original home [of Miami]. A lot of opponents have escaped us, but we promise [the next opponent] will be someone who is worthy of a world class champion like Lara," said manager Luis DeCubas Jr. to George Ebro.

DeCubas Jr. says Lara is open to any challenge, including WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin. Lara has called for a fight with Golovkin in the past.

"If you review Lara's career, he's always fought the best. But now it's the other way around - because now he's already established and a lot of guys are running from him. He gave the venue advantage to Paul Williams, Canelo Alvarez, Perro Angulo. Now we want them to come to us without fear. There is no better fighter than Lara at this weight. He can be matched against anyone from  Floyd Mayweather to Golovkin," DeCubas Jr. said.
