On Saturday evening, WBA/IBO super welterweight champion Erislandy Lara (23-2-2, 13KOs) successfully defended his titles against Vanes Martirosyan at the Cosmopolitan Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.
The fight was a rematch of their 2012 encounter that ended in a technical draw after ringside doctors stopped the fight after several clashes of heads left Martirosyan with deep cuts around his eye.
The 33-year-old Lara thought his performance Saturday was almost flawless.
"For me I fought perfectly, a 100. I took Vanes out of his game plan and I won a unanimous decision," said Lara.
For over year Lara has called for a rematch against Canelo Alvarez - who he lost a razor thin decision against - or a fight against hard hitting WBA/WBC/IBF/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (35-0, 32KOs). Lara said that that he wants the biggest fights available with the largest purses.
"I want Canelo or Golovkin. We can do the rematch or I will fight Golovkin. I want the big fights to put food in my families mouth," Lara explained.
In April, Golovkin demolished the overmatched Dominic Wade who was his IBF mandatory challenger at The Forum in Los Angeles. Wade, like Lara, is advised by Al Haymon and for years the power broker and HBO didn't do any business together. That started to change this year with Wade and Amir Khan appearing on HBO produced events.
With these recently developments, Lara doesn't see any problems making a fight with Golovkin.
"Yes everything is possible. It's not a problem We just need to sit down and make it happen," Lara told BoxingScene.com.
