WBC junior welterweight champion Erik Morales has advised multiple sources in Mexico that he will not go forward with a planned defense against Danny Garcia on January 28th at Reliant Arena in Texas. Last week, the Mexican star felt sick and had immediate gallblader surgery at a hospital in Mexico City.

On Monday, the doctors informed Morales that he needed a few more weeks of rest. The fight was going to be televised in the United States on HBO. Morales asked Golden Boy Promotions to postpone the bout. A date of February 18th, or the first two weeks of March, are possible periods to reschedule the fight.

"Ultimately I will not fight. The doctors recommended more rest after the gallbladder operation and I think in a fight that is so important, it is best not to give any advantage to a fighter like Danny Garcia. I didn't ask them to cancel the fight, only to postpone the date. We'll see what we can set this week," Morales told Sal Rodriguez.
Who is he fighting?
Maidana said he would defend his WBA title against Soto in early 2012, but if Maidana refused, then they'll find a replacement. But one thing...
Soto's next fight is for the vacant WBA belt in March, which would be his 4th title in 4 divisions. fighting D. Garcia in January will stall his chance to fight for that WBA belt. Soto has made close to $2 million altogether now. Thats more than any 140lber (with the ...
Based on what do you say that? Who he has fought? He made less than 30,000 in his fight against Alfaro, he made less than 25,000 in his fight against De Jesus. Why he shouldn't take this fight other than fear? It'd be by far his biggest payday and he's a businessman, right?[/QUOT...
If this is true, it doesn't surprise me one bit. Soto is such a chicken sh!t it's not even funny. He's ducked so many fighters you can make a starting five basketball team. Here are a few that I can think of right now: A. Peterson, B. Rios, U. Antillon (rematch), and now D. ...
GBP offered Soto the fight a week ago. He said no. -chicken-
They told him it would be a non-title fight. Soto is the #1 ranked 140lber and Garcia is #2. The rule is, if the champion (Morales) is ill, then an Interim Title is made by the top contenders, but Moral...
