José Morales, father and coach of Erik "El Terrible" Morales, said the negotiations fell apart for an April fight with Juan Manuel Marquez because of the rising demands that were made by Marquez.  The elder Morales is claiming that a deal was reached between all of the involved parties, but then Marquez came back to the table and raised his monetary demands for the fight.

However, there are reports floating in Mexico that Marquez refused to sign a contract for a fight with Morales in order to avoid the extension of his promotional contract with Golden Boy Promotions. Morales will still see action on April 9 in Las Vegas against an opponent to be determined.

"My son was ready to carry out the fight but Juan didn't want it. [Erik] was ready to give 20% of his purse and [Marquez] still did not want it. Juan Manuel thinks he's worth the pearls of the virgin, but this shows that he's indeed afraid of my son. Eric Gomez, who is a Golden Boy Promotions representative, contacted us and said that Marquez had upped his demands," Jose Morales said.

"In his last fight, Marquez filled in about three thousand people and he still has two losses to Pacquiao. In contrast, Morales in his last fight filled up the stadium Caliente in Tijuana where he still has a lot of support."
