Former three division champion Erik Morales is heading to Los Angeles to sit down with Golden Boy Promotions to finalize an opponent for August. The two names at the top of his list, are IBF lightweight champion Miguel Vazquez and WBA/WBO interim lightweight champion Robert Guerrero. Morales seems to prefer Guerrero, but "The Ghost" is being lined up for a fight with Marcos Maidana on August 27. Morales' first choice was a rematch of his April bout with Maidana. He claims Maidana wanted too much money to make that fight possible. The Mexican veteran is targeting a return in August.

"We did not go for a fight with Amir Khan because of the date, and he's going to fight with Zab Judah (July 23), who they were trying to get in the first place. This week I'll be in Los Angeles to sort this situation out and then I will focus on returning Otomí to start preparing. The idea is to fight in August. There is talk of Vazquez, who is a world champion, and the 'Ghost' Guerrero. I want to be a champion in a fourth division, and I am quite quite sure that'll make it. I have gradually returned to the level I want," Morales told Osiris Cruz.
