Erik Morales: I Would Like To Fight Juan Manuel Marquez

By Rick Reeno

MGM Grand, Las Vegas - Following Erik Morales' amazing performance on Saturday night against Marcos Maidana, the former three division champion expressed his desire to fight Mexican rival Juan Manuel Marquez (52-5, 38KOs). Morales was originally scheduled to fight Marquez on Saturday night. The fight fell apart after Marquez walked away from the negotiations to explore other avenues. He was replaced by Maidana, who barely won a twelve round majority decision over Morales (51-7, 35KOs).

Another option for Morales is a rematch with Maidana. Richard Schaefer, CEO for Golden Boy Promotions, told BoxingScene.com that he's ready to make whatever fight Morales wants.

"We'll ask Morales what he wants. If he wants the rematch [with Maidana], then we'll do the rematch. If he wants Marquez, then we'll talk to Marquez," said Richard Schaefer, CEO for Golden Boy Promotions.

Erik would no doubt catch JMM a few times and I can invision JMM hitting the canvas as he often does only to re-adjust his sights and make the necessary game-plan change to take over the fight. The Maidana fight…
