It seems like Floyd Mayweather is being called out by everyone these days as they all want to be his next opponent for his already reserved date of May 5, 2012. There were rumors that one of the fights they had explored was with current WBC Light Welterweight champion Erik Morales.
When Morales was on The Boxing Lab, BoxingScene.com's official audio show, he was asked what his thoughts were on a potential fight with Mayweather.
“Floyd is a difficult fighter. But it’s not impossible to fight him and it’s no impossible to beat him either” said Morales.
While Floyd does possess a speed advantage over most of his opponents, Morales feels his technical skills would be able to overcome any speed advantage Floyd would have over him.
“I can explain it very clearly. In the case of Marquez and Pacquiao, Pacquiao is a fighter with great speed. But when he fights a technically skilled fighter he struggles. He struggles because there are basic fundamentals and you can do whatever you want, but you can’t deal with them” explained Morales.
Morales not only thinks he can give Mayweather a tough fight, but he thinks he would fare far better than all of Floyd’s recent opponents.
“I think with Mayweather it would be interesting. I don’t think it would be an easy fight for him. By far, by very far, what [Victor] Ortiz and what [Shane] Mosley did against him and all those guys, by far I would give a much better fight than they did”.
