Erik Morales Feels Heavy Emotion as 2012 Closes

By Miguel Rivera

Mexican legend Erik "El Terrible" Morales (52-9, 36KOs) is satisfied with his long career in the sport, which began in 1993. Morales, 36-years-old, lost three of his last four matches and promised to hold a final farewell fight before retiring from boxing.

The match will take place in the first quarter of 2013 in Morales' home turf of Tijuana.

"2012 was a tough year for me, I only fought twice and in both of those fights I lost. But I also considered it a good year because I gave my very best to maintain myself at an elite level. I trained very hard, like a rookie. Nevertheless, the years have made inroads. Yet I'm satisfied with the effort that I gave. I tried my best, so absolutely no regrets," Morales said.

"During my career I conquered world titles in 4 different divisions, and I won 7 championships… I'm very proud of that. I plan to retire in 2013 and stage my last bout in Tijuana in order to say goodbye in my homeland to the sport that I love. This is something very special for me. I want to give something back to the people who have always been there for me during my 20 years of being a professional."

Was always one of my favorite fighters. But I am becoming more and more disappointed that he continues to fight instead of ending his career graciously.
