| Erik Morales Confident The Marquez Fight Will Happen

By Jhonny Gonzalez Three time world champion Erik Morales is confident that a battle with countryman Juan Manuel Marquez will happen in early 2011. There are talks of the fight happening on April 16 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Morales is discussing the details with Golden Boy Promotions, who promote Marquez. The question of "weight" is being negotiated. Marquez is the WBA/WBO champion at lightweight and Morales is the WBC's silver champion at junior welterweight. Morales anticipates that Marquez will move up to 140 to fight him for his silver title. If that doesn't happen, Morales has no problem with an agreed up on weight in the middle. "I'm still speaking with Golden Boy about the fight. It's a fight that I want. It's a big fight because a lot of fans, especially in Mexico, want to see this battle happen. I think it will happen in March or April of next year," Morales said. |

Exactly. I don't agree with this fight, but JMM is 37yo himself, has been putting in the real work for years, and he does deserve the payday.
