Two-time former world champion Eric Morel played down the desire of his upcoming opponent Abner Mares. They are going to clash in a Mexico vs. Puerto Rico battle on April 21 in El Paso, Texas, for the vacant WBC super bantamweight title.
Although Mares is younger, Morel feels the rising star has a style that is tailor made for him.
"I'm training very well, very strong and we are focused on what we have to do. His style is perfect for me. He's someone who comes forward without thinking. He has faced people who are strong and with the same style. When I start doing side steps, and change my punches and use my speed and my movement, I imagine that I'm going to become [the new champion]," Morel said.
Morel, 36 (46-2, 23 KO's), feels the team of Mares, 26 (23-0-1, 13 KO's), are overlooking him a bit, but he plans to pull off a shocker in Texas.
"It is an opportunity given to me and I am very grateful to the WBC. They think it will be an easy fight and he will be crowned [champion] again, but it will not be so easy," Morel said.
